Early Mercyful Fate,
By exodusone (San Bernardino, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Beginning (Audio CD)
This album is a collection of classic old school metal from the Danish band Mercyful Fate. Most of the tracks on here capture Mercyful Fates golden period from 1982 up until 1984. I can name 3 reasons why to get this album 1)The Mercyful Fate EP (1982) is on here which happens to be track 1-4. 2) It's a great collection to own for any metal head. 3) The sound is better then ever, since they remastered this album and 1 bonus track. My favorite tracks off this fine album are "Doomed By The Living Dead" (killer riffs), "Devil Eyes" (it's sounds so early 80's and you can tell, but love the drumming), and last the chilling epic in the Mercyful Fate saga "Satan's Fall" (personally i think this is the best Mercyful Fate song ever put on wax). This album brings back alot of memories for me, before thrash came along there was Mercyful Fate with their chilling lyrics and killer but well structured music for the early 80's. Get this and blast it loud for the 80's.

This is some very good stuff. There are many classic songs that can also be found on Melissa and some that are not on that album."Nuns have no fun" is a great song. This stuff was a good start for the band but i think that Dont Break The Oath was Mercyful Fates best album. And what is that other reviewer talking about comparing them to Christian Death? He says "if you want some real GOTH/DEATH ROCK.....".If you think that Mercyful Fate is even trying to be a death rock band then you shouldnt even be reviewing this album.Although Christian Death with Rozz Williams was great. The mention of Christian Death has no place in a mercyful fate review.Anyway,Mercyful Fate is a lot better.Buy this CD.

Kim Bendix Peterson is the man behind "King Diamond." Great guitar licks, heavy rhythm and an awesome vocal ability make for a collectors item. Some of the heaviest guitar ever recorded!

Mercyful Fates,"the begining",is the best mercyful fate album i have ever heard,it contains great tracks like,"Doomed by the living dead","corps without a soul","Nuns have no fun",and the very strange"Evil",so if you want to get one album I would recommend this album because after you listen to this album once you will know it by heart!

Raw Metal!...,

Even though some parts of this album sound kind of weard, it has killer riffs and contains b-sides with a first release EP. At first I didn't like it that much. I'd used to hear Track 1 on the Roadrunner site on King Diamonds page and it's one of the best tracks on the album. Then I understood why it sounds a little like Iron Maiden. Ofcourse it was the early 80's when it was raw demo versions for a start. They sounded great and very dated, and this album is really worth your while. If you still don't have it, Get it!

this album collects the amazing mercyful fate mini LP, and other early songs pre-melissa. from this danish black metal bands inception to the masterpiece "dont break the oath", mercyful fate was probably one of the finest bands on the planet. i personally think the mini LP is their finest hour and reason enough to purchase this. dont forget to pick up melissa too.

especially if you are already a mercyful fate fan.probably their HEAVIEST album, very raw and unpolished but dont let that detract you.all the fate ingredients are present- kings falsetto, denner and shermanns guitar wizardry, timi's bass, the "shocking"satanic lyrics(paricularly for 1982)...consider this essential if you are a fate fan

This album is just full of so wonderful songs just as devil eyes, a corpse without soul, doomed by the living dead etc. King uses his vocal range in on full power. Believe me...

The first time I've heard this CD, I've entered in a new world, and then I wanted to listen only black metal. It's a furious metal, to jump all night long.
