I highly recommend this album to any Garth fan. The songs are sung by the original artists, or to be more specific the other half of the song writing duo as Garth co-wrote a lot of the songs. These songs are stripped to their bare bones and it's really surprising after being so used to Garth just hanging it all out there, to take a step back and remember what it was like back in the day. The only problem I have with this album is the fact this is the umpteenth time these songs have been released. Who does Garth think he is? Elvis? (Meaning that Garth, unlike Elvis, is alive, and therefore is capable of producing new material) I mean everything he does lately seems to be just putting his old stuff in a shiny new box. This album has the distinction of Garth not singing the songs, but I am sure most people are getting my drift. I am tired of shelling out my bucks for the same songs! I liked this album, I am not saying I don't, but I liked it the first time I heard them as well. And the time after that and after that and so on. :) Like I said, if you're a Garth fan, pick it up, it has a few surprises, such as a goofy Friends and Low Places and a previously unreleased song Pains that's worth the price tag alone. Also each artist talks about Garth and their song in the liner notes along with a few thoughts from the man himself.

I know that as a Garth fan, I am not quite objective in my opinions, but I must tell you, I bought this record wondering what change may be made by the writers and co-writers of Garth's hits. I must tell you, I was surprised I liked the CD very much, but think about it as a moment to share with friends and maybe a small bar where you are sharing memories with close friends, ofcourse is not Garth, ofcourse is not a lot of production, but simply listening to "Wolves" worth the record. If you like Garth, it's mery possible that you're gonna like this.

I recieved this CD for my birthday and being a huge Garth Brooks fan, I was very excited about it. My excitement soon turned to horror as when I started listening to the songs. They were terrible! These people absolutely slaughtered these amazing songs!I know that they were being preformed by the people that wrote/co-wrote them, and I would be the first to say that the songs themselves are amazing and the writters are great at what they do, they just can't sing. If you like the kind of old, whinning country music (as in, nothing Garth Brooks would ever sing), then maybe you'd like the way these people preforme these songs. But there is a reason some people write the songs and get others to sing them. With the exception of the lady who sings *We Shall be Free* the CD is full of terrible music. I suppose if you are a diehard Garth fan you will want to buy this CD, just do it knowing that after you have listend to the first 20 seconds of each song, this CD will have a permanet home on your shelf, I know mine does. |
