Covers Not Only C# but Also .NET,
By
This review is from: Beginning Visual C# 2005 (Wrox Beginning Guides) (Paperback)
This is a beginning, or perhaps intermediate level book on Microsoft's C# (C-Sharp) programming language used with the Microsoft .NET framework. It covers both the C# language and .NET at a beginner level. It is intended to be usable to everyone from people who have never programmed before to C++ programmers who want to learn the differences Microsoft has put into C#, and as an introduction to the .NET library of code.
As a beginning book, the examples can be programmed using the simpler (and FREE) 'Express' versions of both C# and Visual Studio. The book begins with a discussion of Visual Studio and how to use it. From there it goes on to a very simple console application that simply writes one line of text to the screen. And as you might guess, by the end of the 778 page book, the programs have gotten somewhat more complex. This kind of programming book covers almost exactly the same material of other beginning books on C#. I find that I like the tone, the style of writing, and the completeness of this book better than a lot of others.

Excellent book,
This review is from: Beginning Visual C# 2005 (Wrox Beginning Guides) (Paperback)
The book is great for those who have a base knowledge of c# programming but also want to improove their skills. Although it says beginning C# 2005, this book is not for those who want to write their first program.
In covers all basic needs of a junior programmer in order to allow him to experiment and create new programs.

Bettter than the Pro version,
This review is from: Beginning Visual C# 2005 (Wrox Beginning Guides) (Paperback)
Even though this is the beginning book it's better than the Pro C# 2005 book written by some of the same authors. I read this book first and the Pro version second. I found that it explains many of the concepts in a more effective way with less words.

Nails the theory and concepts but fails on the examples.,

The examples are somewhat jumbled. There's never a full view of the program and he often uses variables or methods before he defines them. It's like he creates it, then explains it in reverse.

Great C# book for Dot Net Framework 2.0,

This review is from: Beginning Visual C# 2005 (Wrox Beginning Guides) (Paperback)
If your new to C#, this is a great and cheap way to learn it. I payed $ 0.95 USA Cents for it and its worth it. Although its old, you can still pick the language syntax up and with its example code, you can use the free compiler SharpDevelop. Google it and you will see the Free C# compiler.
This book helps you understand things not only from the C# language but the .net 2.0 framework as well. Thats a good thing. Without this knowledge, you wont understand why C# is the language of choice for new programmers. With it being objected oriented code and a book to match, this is worth the price for even young programmers to use.

I am reading Beginning Visual C# 2005. I have read many books in class and independently, on computer programming languages and topics. I would like to strongly suggest/request that authors use real world business examples in their Examples and practice questions. I do not do any programming with Animals or decks of cards, such as they use in this book. It is very hard to understand a concept without a real-world application. Give me a business problem with sales or accounting and I can get it. This is a good book except this, which is a HUGE problem.

Great example code to implement,

This review is from: Beginning Visual C# 2005 (Wrox Beginning Guides) (Paperback)
Well presented. The code compiles and runs flawlessly. You can figure out the details on your own if you know a little bit about about basic programming--VB, etc. A HUGE time saver.

Poor book,
By
This review is from: Beginning Visual C# 2005 (Wrox Beginning Guides) (Paperback)
This book will stuff you with many rules of the C# 2.0, but lamentably it does not teach how to use them. The programs are short and poor. Definitively this is not the form to teach a beginner how a programming language must be used. And the book doesn't explain the differences between C# 1.0 and C# 2.0, except a short chapter about generics.
