5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Book., July 27, 1998
This review is from: Beginning Visual C++ Components (Paperback)
I have not read this book from beginning to end, and I wouldn't recommend it for beginners trying to learn Visual C++, since there are much better books. However, I rated this book 5 stars because of the niche that it fills. This book covers not only the basic Window controls (such as list boxes, combo boxes, etc), but it goes into much more specialized functions. For example, suppose you wanted to create a list box that can have multiple columns, such as a database, and allow the user to click on any box in the grid and type in information. These are the type of design problems the book tackles... it goes beyond the basic "how to implement the control". This is an excellent book on how to "get more" out of Visual C++

4.0 out of 5 stars Good intermediate level MFC programming book., June 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Beginning Visual C++ Components (Paperback)
A good book about building and using MFC extensions and MFC ActiveX full controls. There are better books on ATL. This book shows you quite a few samples and then concludes by using them in an application at the end of the book. Samples are useful components for your own programs. This book is getting somewhat dated now (uses VC 4.2 and ATL 1.1) but still relevant.
