2011 USA Best Book Awards to Anne Geddes!

Beginnings Hardcover book 1st place Photography: General
Beginnings E-Book 1st Place E-Book: Non-Fiction

Award-winning photographer Anne Geddes founded a new tradition in visual storytelling and captivated an international audience. Now, after spending 12 months photographing, Anne reveals a range of images that are, in her own words, among the most personally rewarding she has ever created. A beautiful gift book with more than 140 never-before-published photographs, BEGINNINGS will be released worldwide on 10.10.10 in countries including, the United States, Canada, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Brazil, Australia and New Zealand.
“I have always been fascinated by elements of nature at the moment of transformation,” comments Anne. “Babies are the human face of beginnings, but all of nature is caught in this insistent stream of seasons, of aging and rebirth, of concealment and bursting forth. Every time I unwrap a newborn, even after all these years of photographing them, I am aware of the miracle before me. This book, Beginnings, took me on a journey of discovery to reveal these everyday miracles of nature, these complementary wonders, in imagery.”
Continuing in the tradition that has made her one of the most sought-after and popular photographers in the world, in BEGINNINGS, Anne Geddes presents the simple and elegant elements of nature as we have never seen them before. With her camera, she has conceived a fresh story about the delicate and powerful mystery of new life that will inspire nature lovers just as surely as her images of babies have captured the imaginations of people around the globe. She reveals the intricate beauty of birds’ nests, the delicacy of eggs, and the glorious color hidden inside the tight, unopened petals of a blossom before it blooms. Then, she expands on her visual metaphor to reveal surprising and illuminating juxtapositions of beginnings in floral and human forms.
Once again, Anne Geddes draws our eye to celebrate those treasures worth nurturing and protecting. Told in a language of love that is understood by so many cultures and people of all ages, BEGINNINGS is sure to transcend boundaries, as her other internationally bestselling books have done.

As well as winning numerous awards around the world, Anne's books have regularly appeared across bestseller lists including the Wall Street Journal, Publishers Weekly, Book Sense, Barnes and Noble, and The New York Times. The latter has especially proved the success of Anne's imagery. The runaway success Down in the Garden featured on the list for three months, and Miracle remained on the list for six weeks.

While Anne is known for her photographic books, she remains on the forefront of the changing publishing industry, fully embracing the digital revolution. Implementing the latest technology in partnership with Apple, Anne has released Apps for the iPhone and iPad, and launched a successful iPad game, Anne Geddes MatchUp™. In September 2011, Beginnings and two of Anne's bestselling books, PURE and Until Now were released as eBooks, followed by Down in the Garden in December 2011; and in April 2012 Anne's classic baby record book, My First Five Years™ was released in digital form on the Mac App Store.

As well as media acclaim Anne has also been honored numerous times by the worldwide photographic community. Most recently, Anne has been invited to speak again at their upcoming conference in 2014.

Throughout her career Anne has continued to give back. In 2011, Anne was proud to announce her partnership with the United Nation's Every Woman Every Child initiative, which she hopes will continue to help make the health and welfare of pregnant women, and newborn children, a global priority. Anne attended and spoke at the launch of the Shot@Life campaign in Atlanta, Georgia. An initiative of the United Nations Foundation, Shot@Life aims to provide life saving vaccines to children in the developing world. Anne was announced as the official Global Advocate at the launch, which was also attended by Kathy Calvin, Chief Executive Officer, United Nations Foundation; and former First Lady Rosalynn Carter. In order to bring these issues to a wider audience Anne also contributes to The Huffington Post's' Global Motherhood' section.

I just received the book and the pictures are absolutely beautiful and precious. I LOVE Anne Geddes work. It already has a place on my coffee table and I can't wait to show it to my friends. I think I am going to have to buy more to give as baby shower gifts.

Was a little disappointed....there were a lot of pictures of seeds and less pictures of babies. I buy Anne Geddes because of the creativeness but was hoping for more baby pics.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you love nature and babies December 29, 2010
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I could not wait to open this book and could not put it down until I'd seen every page. It is a visual feast and moving work for someone who both loves everything about flowers, birds, moths, etc., appreciates textiles, and feels awe for babies.
