1.0 out of 5 stars one of her best, keeps you guessing on how it will work out
I have been a fan of Ms. Lamb since I first read Border Lord. This one was great, and keep you guessing on how the couple will make a happy ending occur. The character of Agnes has all the strength of a modern lady, but the dialouge keeps one in a late 1700s mind set. I hate waiting for the next one in the series.

Agnes Mackenzie, haunted by a mistake that led to the disappearance of her baby sister, Virginia, had dedicated herself to protecting the innocents of the world and searching for Virginia. When someone shoots an arrow at the widowed doctor and inventor Edward Napier, Earl of Cathcart, Agnes throws herself in its path. She forces Cathcart to take her with him to his home in the lower Highlands to find the assassin and protect the Earl's children.

A wonderfully descriptive tale of love, loss and regret over past mistakes. Agnes is a strong, capable woman who believes love must wait until her quest is completed.

5.0 out of 5 stars the best of the clan..., January 20, 2005
This review is from: Beguiled (Mass Market Paperback)
of the Clan MacKenzie books by Arnette Lamb, I personally relate and enjoy this one best. Agnes is a wonderfully unconventional historical heroine. Brave, intelligent and beautiful-she's a bodyguard-and Miss Lamb's skillful, fun writing carries that, at first implausible, lady's occupation off. Her hero is equally a bold character as he is a studious, intelligent inventor of textiles. A truly enjoyable read. 5 stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this story., June 2, 1999

I loved how Ms. Lamb has expanded on the four sisters in her books. This one is especially good because Angnes is the type of women we would all like to be in one way or another. The love story between her and the doctor is funny, frustrating, infuriating and wonderful and makes you want to keep reading. I have all her books and can't wait for the next. If you want romance from the heart, here it is.

4.0 out of 5 stars Agnes is a Bonafide Woman Warrior, October 20, 2008
This review is from: Beguiled (Mass Market Paperback)
I started this book a while ago, and put it down for several months. It was really good when I started reading it, but I am a mood reader so it wasn't fitting my mood. I finished it yesterday and I was ready to read it then. Agnes Mackenzie is a heroine after my heart. She has purpose and drive, but also a heart. She can be ruthless when needed, but for the best reasons. She is tough and a warrior. I wish there were more genuine women warriors in romance. I also liked the hero, Edward. He is a scientist and a thinker, but also a man of action. Both characters embody elements that I love about Scottish people: passion, pragmatism, loyalty to the end, and love of family. The love scenes come late in the book, but they are well written and emotional. You want this couple to be together, and I loved that Edward supported Agnes's mission and was willing to change his own life to be with her and to help her fulfill her mission. I highly recommend this older romance for a reader who likes Scottish romances, strong heroines, sexy, cerebral heroes, and a good bit of adventure thrown in.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful, easy to read, and very entertaining book!, August 29, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Beguiled (Mass Market Paperback)
I haved read all the other books about the McKenzies and while I enjoyed all of them, "Beguiled" is my favorite. Agnes is a wonderful character. Even though she can hold her own against any man and has traveled the world over looking for her younger sister, she is still delightfully naive and refreshing. I highly recommend this book! You won't be able to put it down.
