More About the Author

USA Today best selling author Maureen Child is the author of more than ninety romance novels and novellas. Maureen is a five time nominee for the prestigious Rita award from Romance Writers of America.

One of her novels, A POCKETFUL OF PARADISE, was made into a CBS-TV movie called The Soul Collector, starring Melissa Gilbert, Bruce Greenwood and Ossie Davis.

Maureen was not only on the Texas set to watch her characters come to life in front of the cameras, she was also tossed into the last scene by her husband and the producer, who both thought this would be a fun way to humiliate an author!

When her kids were small, Maureen started writing as not only a way to stay sane, but in the hopes of finding a job she could do and stay at home with them. Sanity is still an issue, but she did manage to write her way into a career she wouldn't trade for anything.

Over the years, she's written under lots of different names and she prefers the term 'pseudonym' to 'alias'. As Ann Carberry, she wrote western historical romances. As Kathleen Kane, she wrote not only Americana romances, but western paranormal romances as well. As Sarah Hart, she wrote one really spectacular western paranormal that is still one of her favorites. And once, Ann Carberry even wrote a Victorian historical which she absolutely loved doing.

Under her own name, Maureen writes short contemporary novels for Silhouette Desire--books she loves to write because of their fast pace and condensed story telling. Maureen is also writing funny, contemporary paranormal romances for NAL and darker paranormal stories for Silhouette Nocturne.

Life is busy but when she isn't writing you can find Maureen sitting under her 'thinking tree', coming up with new ideas for even more stories. When she isn't dreaming up a new book or writing a current one, Maureen loves to travel. Her favorite vacation spot is Ireland, with Scotland coming in a very close second. She and her husband love a good road trip and Maureen's looking forward to the day when she can actually drive to Ireland. Talk about the best of both worlds!

Maureen lives with her family in Southern California and loves to hear from her readers. Visit her online at www.maureenchild.com.

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful sequel, August 8, 2009
This review is from: Beguiled: A Queen of the Otherworld Novel (Signet Eclipse) (Paperback)
Maggie Donovan defeated evil fae Queen Mab in a classic cat fight (see BEDEVILED). Although the part human part Fae woman will never forget what she witnessed especially never listen to ABBA on a full stomach again, she knows she will never return to her previous lifestyle. Culhane the warrior says she is the Chosen One and struggles with being called Queen Maggie.

Outraged by having her butt kicked in by an impure female, former Queen Mab escapes incarceration and prepares for a rematch as she still believes she, as a purebred fae, is superior to a hybrid fae "diseased" with human blood. Maggie adapts to being the Queen of the Otherworld especially with Culhane as her adviser and lover. As Mab vows not to underestimate her foe, she raises their personal war to higher levels when she kidnaps her adversary's niece at a time when Maggie has doubts about Culhane's motives.

The conflict in this wonderful sequel is on two levels as the heroine begins to question where her lover's loyalty lies and the upcoming war with her evil rival. The story line is fast-paced and filed with action, but it is the strong cast, not just the lead trio, who makes Otherworld seem genuine.

4.0 out of 5 stars Faeries are real..., December 3, 2011
This review is from: Beguiled: A Queen of the Otherworld Novel (Signet Eclipse) (Paperback)
Evil Fae Queen Mab has been let loose from her prison and is back to conquer Queen Maggie: unwitting usurper, part-human, part-Fae. Maggie is getting used to her role as queen in Otherworld, which includes loving Culhane, Warrior and advisor to the queen. Her trust in him dwindles when she suspects he's more after her power than her love. When Maggie's niece is kidnapped by Mab, the two have to come together to rescue the girl and defeat Mab for good.

A wonderfully magical world of Fae and otherworldly creatures. The interaction between plucky Maggie and intense Culhane add magic of its own. Interwoven internal and external conflict throughout the story make it an entertaining page-turner but the secondary characters add such tremendous color to the story that one could say they almost stole the show. A great turnout by Maureen Child.

5.0 out of 5 stars 5 Hearts from TRS!, April 26, 2010

This review is from: Beguiled: A Queen of the Otherworld Novel (Signet Eclipse) (Paperback)
Maureen Child continues this Queen of the Otherworld Series with another book that will have the reader feeling enthralled by the Fae. It's hard to put down as Culhane's male chauvinism has us gritting our teeth, hoping someone can bring him into the twenty-first century. But he's so loveable we hope he can handle it. Bezel, an ornery but loveable Pixie, isn't gorgeous but he fills the pages he's on with smiles at his skills as chef and his loyalty to Maggie,

The Dullahan and Mab manage to do everything they can to keep the book intense with suspense and their truly nasty dispositions. Maggie's family and friends like Claire, the psychic witch, are excellent characters who give us hope that the future might be secure. Throughout, the romance between Culhane and Maggie is one of those love stories we love to read. On again off again with her feelings, Maggie stands up to the warrior, refusing to give in until he can treat her with respect. Readers can't help but admire her even though she seems to want to sit on the fence if she can, like many of us, when decisions will change lives. Maureen Child continues to prove her writing skills will keep her among my must-read favorites with another excellent tale. - Dee Dailey
