Editorial Reviews

Review

Behavior Analysis for Lasting Change is firmly grounded in current research and principles. It is not merely a textbook that provides practitioners with the techniques and tricks that they might use on the job, but rather a textbook that prepares students to become critical consumers of research and critical evaluators of treatment efficacy -- exactly the repertoires we hope for competent behavior analysts to possess. In short, this text is ideal for shaping the next generation of scientist practitioners. I am thrilled that Mayer, Sulzer-Azaroff, and Wallace (2011) will be contributing to the long tradition of graduate training in behavior analysis at Southern Illinois University. --Ruth Anne Rehfeldt, BCBA-D, Ph.D., Southern Illinois University

Beth Sulzer-Azaroff, G. Roy Mayer and Michele Wallace deliver the best textbook for applied behavior analysis available. Easy-to-read, well-researched and practical, this book will provide both students and instructors strategies to solve real life problems. Indeed, this book puts the "applied" back into behavior analysis. --Kathleen Dyer, CCC-SLP, Ph.D. BCBA-D, Clinical Director, River Street Autism Program at Coltsville

I have used the previous edition of Behavior Analysis for Lasting Change for a number of years in a graduate-level introductory class in behavior analysis for teacher certification candidates. The text was well organized, sequenced coherently, clearly written and technically correct. Throughout the chapters there are sufficient and useful illustrations and examples of concepts. The text provides a proper balance of theory and application. On course evaluations students consistently indicated that they enjoyed using the text and found it to be accessible and useful. After a perusal of the new edition it appears the authors have maintained the rigor and quality of the previous edition and provided some important updates. --Steven R. Lyon, Ph.D, University of Pittsburgh --This text refers to the Textbook Binding edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vital book for school change and responsiveness to change, January 16, 2000
This review is from: Behavior Analysis for Lasting Change (Hardcover)
This book is essential for anyone seriously considering a role of leadership in schools or districts. In the book, the reader learns about excellent and practical science to make schools a better place. There is not a topic that isn't covered. All of the practical issues are present. Yes, the book uses the language of very good behavioral sciences, and that is appropriate. With all the headline things that have happened in the world with schools, its important that major leaders in schools have good grounding in practical science of behavior change. What's really neat about the book is that almost everything in its is doable. You can make it happen. In my own landmark research on youth violence, I could not have done it without standing on the shoulders of giants like Beth Sulzer-Azaroff and G.Roy Mayer. Every future teacher or administrator has to have studied this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best summary of Applied Behavior Analysis, February 24, 2006

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Behavior Analysis for Lasting Change (Hardcover)
If you want to change things, you always have to take human behavior into account. Behavior analysis is the science that does this very precisely. It helps you to measure and to change the behaviors of yourself and others for getting the results that you want.
The book of Beth Sulzer-Azaroff en Roy Mayer gives an excellent summary of the way behavior can be changed succesfully. It tells you how to measure behavior, how to increase desirable behavior, how to decrease undesirable behavior and how to extend and maintain behavior.
If you really want to understand behavior and concrete tools to change it, you should read this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Behavior Analysis for Lasting Change, May 7, 2006
This review is from: Behavior Analysis for Lasting Change (Hardcover)
This text deals with methods and stragegies of analyzing and modifying behaviors. Within the text I specifically focused on chapter nine through twelve which involved increasing behavior through the use of positive reinforcement. I also give special attention to chapters twenty-four and twenty-five dealing with decreasing behaviors incompatible with underisable behavior, and to a lesser extent the use of punishment. Mastery of these tools will enable teachers to effectively deal with most of the situations faced in today's classroom.
