Worth reading, interesting topic and methods. You need to fit it into a broader framework of knowledge and experience.,

This review is from: Behavior Principles in Everyday Life (4th Edition) (Paperback)
It was an interesting book for Behavioral Psychology. It was our sourcebook for a course on the subject. It is o value for specific techniques in Behavioral Psychology in treating a broad range of disorders, overcoming phobias, OCD, etc. Real-life examples. The book si published by the University of California, and definitly comes across as a California-personality book, if you can follow that idea. There is no on approach to psychology that is 100%. I felt that some of the ideas in here will probably not be effective. You have to be eclectic when reading this type of book, sort through the effective from what might be bogus. You can't read a book like this the way you would the Bible, or go about your psychology practice in that manner either, following the instructions letter to letter. Most psychologists nowadays, tend to be eclectic and not stick to one format. So, anyone who is studying psychology or social workers, others on the fringes of psychology, can definitly get a lot out of the ideas and techniques presented here. But you have to fit it into a broader framework of your own experience and knowledge and not stick rigidly to what the authors here prescribe. It presents ideas, however, that are of more value than that of a "medical model" approach to psychiatry. And if you had to choose between the two, choose behavioral psychology rather than biological psychiatry.

Excellent pragmatic reference,
This review is from: Behavior Principles in Everyday Life (Paperback)
I've known John and Janice Baldwin for about 2 years now and have always admired their devout interest in 'practical applications' of sociological science to the real world -- and, most importantly, real people. This is the raison d'etre of their well-attended and well-received Human Sexuality courses at UCSB, as well as John's courses on pragmatism and *ethical* captalism. The Baldwins genuinely care about people-- this book helps bring sociology 'to the people' in their excellent tradition. Enjoy!
