Editorial Reviews

Review

"This book is impressive in its scope, addressing the biological and psychological bases of behavior throughout the life cycle, succinctly reviewing psychopathology and social behavior. What makes the book great is at the end, where there are helpful discussions of the doctor-patient relationship, complicated ethical and legal matters, the history of healthcare delivery systems, as well as the explanations, examples, and easy to understand charts in the appendix on medical epidemiology and biostatistics."

This is a good book. However, the author also wrote the BRS Behavioral Science (Board Review Series). So if you're looking to study for boards, I recommend the BRS rather than this. It's much more concise and to the point. If you want a nice discussion of Behavior science, this book is a good read, however, it is definitely tailored towards a reader who will eventually be taking the medical licensing exams.

This book is straightforward and an excellent resource if Dr. Fadem teaches in your MBB course.

This is a good reference book for Psychology and or Psychiatry during Basic Sciences. It has some good practice questions and charts to help you learn what you need to know.

well this book is required reading for my neuroscience/psychiatry class. doesnt give me too much leeway in deciding whether or not i want to buy it. fortunately for me, its well written, to the point, and occiasionally entertaining (did you know alcohol is good for you? i thought that maens like one glass of wine with dinner two or three times a week. i was wrong - it means 4+ drinks 4+ nights a week. thats a lot of drinking.) anyway it probably varies from medical school to medical school, but since fadem is my professor for this course, the topics highlited in the book are exactly what is stressed on the exams. hopefully that extends in general at other medical schools since she also writes for the NBME and so what she thinks is important *should* also be considered important by the NBME and so by other medical schools as well.

What a waste of paper and my time! This hideous book barely scratches the surface of it's alleged content. Poorly written and organized, the author fails to adequately explain pathologies, signs and symptoms, and treatment methods. You would be better off using wikipedia!
