What an awesome album! The Shadow Theory is a 'super group' consisting of Demi Scott on keys, Arne Schuppner on guitars, Kristoffer Gildenlow on bass, Johanne James (Threshold) on drums and Devon Graves/Buddy Lackey on vocals, flute and acoustic guitars. And what a group this is! Devon Graves returns to fine form since the demise of Deadsoul Tribe and gives the performance of a lifetime, some songs even remind me of his best from 'A Social Grace' his former (and now reformed!) band Psychotic Waltz's debut album from 1991! Yes, it's THAT good! For an 'all star ensemble' it is dense, cohesant and very consequent in quality. The story is about a rock star who has trouble waking up from a dream which, off course turns into a nightmare. The musical styles are so varied and fluent from moody folky to fast, furious paced technical 'prog'metal. The story never feels forced and the playing by all members is excellent. If you like doomy, dark, melodic metal with a twist, buy this album NOW!

The SHADOW THEORY...Behind the black veil, this new release is Mind blowing, for fan's of Psychotic Waltz, and Dead soul tribe, this is Devon Graves, new project and what a project it is, with it's members from Threshold, Pain of salvation, and the afore mentioned band's of MR. Devon Graves, it is a sonic treat for all fan's of progressive metal, with amazing arrangements, and ghostly feel to this release, arranged and produced by Devon Graves, these tracks will stay with you, the listener, and every time you hear them you'll discover something new, absolutely a triumph, This may be Devon Graves Crowning achievement to date, the first track comes spiraling out and if the guitar bass and drums and keyboard dont hit you like a ton of brick's, then Devon's skilled flute turn's everything into a haunting symphony, and his Vocal's spot on with Devon, channeling King Diamond, on this release, it's just an amazing performance,This is a really amazing treat for all fan's of Devon Graves, and fan's of progressive music, definately my pic for the best of 2010, So dont wait another minute do what I did and go to Amazon.com and order this release now!

Behind the Black Veil gives Graves' pre-Deadsoul Tribe fans what they have been asking for for years. It mixes his Psychotic Waltz days with bits and pieces from the Deadsoul Tribe material while also introducing a strong lineup few can ignore.

However, initial plays of the disc may turn some off because of the way Devon Graves' vocals have been mixed. They are behind the main instruments on most songs and this does reduce the impact of the album, given this is a concept album about "a junkie rock star who seemingly moves from dream to interconnected dream only to eventually realize that he is dead and has become a player in an evil spirit's eternal symphony." During the busiest parts of the album, Graves' lyrics cannot be heard as well as they should be. Therefore, fans who don't have the patience to sit through the album for several plays or listen to it on a good set of headphones are unforunately going to miss out.

Those who will give the album a chance, though, are in for a treat. They will discover a whole new dimension of Graves' vocals. Admittedly, these songs see him blending his unique Psychotic Waltz style with his new-found yet equally mesmerizing Deadsoul Tribe style. Graves not only sings aggressively, but he also imparts powerful melodic tension and restlessness to portray to intended mood. He whispers, screams, and sings in an impossibly beauitiful melodic tone -- sometimes all in the same track. Anyone who is not moved and blown away by the melodic intro of "Welcome" is not breathing!

I love every minute of this CD, especially because I like the dark and creepy ambience and am a huge Devon Graves fan. Classical, folk, prog, metal...it's all in there.
