Book Description

Son of a wealthy, successful, and famous British designer, Ian was born into the world of the rich and shameless. He blames himself, and his father, for his mother's death, and has run far away to start a new life. Beautifully blond, musically talented, but emotionally troubled, he hides his pain behind pale blue eyes and drinks to numb the guilt that has followed him across the ocean. When he meets Sarah, the fiery-haired singer with all the connections to make their dreams come true, will the burdens of his past destroy their love and everything they ever wanted?

Behind Blue Eyes is a new four-part series following a young musician's turbulent life as he makes his rock and roll dreams come true in a city far from where he grew up. Equal parts family saga, love story, and rock and roll circus, this first novel will take you back to the late 70s in Toronto for a dramatic roller-coaster ride through the world of music.

Inspired by the Pete Townshend song made famous by The Who, the series is at once a nostalgic love letter to the author's hometown and to the music she listened to while growing up there.

2.0 out of 5 stars behind weepy eyes August 2, 2014

The hero cried when awake, he cried in his sleep, he cried when being beaten, and when he was kissed.
he cried with Chris, he cried with Peter, he cried with the heroine, and with Diandre.
He cried when making love, he cried when making out, he cried in handcuffs, and he cried into a bottle of scotch.
You may be wondering if the hero cries in this book? Yes, yes he does. A lot.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great read! May 17, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author and, as the blurb intrigued me, I decided to give it a try in return for an honest review.

This is the first book in a four part series. I really enjoyed it.

Ian is a young man with a dream - to be a musician - in 1970's Toronto. I really liked this character. He is sensitive and caring, but he also has some serious issues that made me want to shake him.

Sarah is a sweet young girl with a passion for music. When she meets Ian, she falls for his shy and charming personality. I really liked her. She is quite levelheaded and down to earth, to say that her family are quite wealthy and famous.

This is an intriguing story that is very much like a soap opera! I must confess that it did take me a while to get in to the story, and I have found that I am not really a huge fan of drama filled sagas. However, I decided to keep going, and I am glad I did.
The story is mostly told through Ian's and Sarah's point of view, but a few of the other characters have their say too. The story was well written and flowed wonderfully, but even though there was drama and angst, I found myself oddly bored at times. There was not much in the way of action, and I found some of the scenes to be a bit too drawn out for my liking. The characters were all interesting in their own way, but I struggled to connect with them. Ian is a likable person with some seriously unresolved issues from his past. All the other characters in the story had issues of their own, but it was the drama between Ian and Sarah that was like watching two trains on a collision course. The path to true love is not easy, and is fraught with obstacles and challenges to over come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful series August 4, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Started this series while on a beach vacation and read all three of the books one after the other. I had other books to read, but was interested to see what happened to and with the characters. As another reviewer said, I didn't agree with the choices the characters made, but also wanted to keep reading to find out what happened.

The book also took me back to that period of time, even remembering how pervasive cigarette smoking was at that time. In one scene, the characters were smoking on an airplane and I found myself thinking, you can't do that, and then remembered, yes, you could back then.

I also learned of this series through our mutual interest in The Who and previous online blogging and discussions. It took me a while to get the time to start reading the series, but as I said, once I started, I didn't stop. Waiting for the fourth and final book of the series!

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVED this book July 9, 2013

I LOVED THIS BOOK !!

This is one of those occasions when my lack of writing skills seriously frustrates me. I cannot for the life of me put into words how much I enjoyed this book.

The story takes place in the late 70's and is the story of Ian, a very talented musician from a wealthy family who is running from his past, and Sarah the beautiful girl he met in a music shop.

Ian is shy and sensitive and has a problem opening up to people, while Sarah is the total opposite, but they connect, and fall in love. It is not an easy relationship as Ian has serious baggage he cannot share with Sarah, and this, on top of other problems he has, causes a rift between them. It is left up to Sarah to try and help him, but she makes a decision that does not work out for them, and they go their separate ways - on a personal level, but stay with the band. The band, in the meantime, is doing well and they are working hard to achieve their goals and are well on their way to reaching the rock star status they want so badly.

This story is beautifully written, it is fast paced with wonderful characters that are driven by their love of music, but at the same time, they are devoted to their families and friends. It is a story with lots of twists and turns that caught me unawares at times.

There were many times I cringed at the decisions the characters made, but it made the story real, and the characters so genuine and sincere that you can't help but be drawn into their story, and silently hope and pray they ultimately make the right decisions so that they can all live happily ever after :)

I look forward to reading Behind Blue eyes: Love Ain't for Keeping, but I must admit I am nervous, in case anything goes wrong ..... LOL

I highly recommend this book - it is a fantastic read.

5.0 out of 5 stars not my usual but thoughtful all the same July 6, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
It's easy to love the light-hearted books that are so popular these days. They make us smile to ourselves and are a great afternoon read.. But that's not this book.
This is one of those books that is so well-written you find yourself picturing the characters, the scenes and the whole dialogue like a movie playing in your head. It's like watching 8 mile - a wonderful movie, but one that makes you want to cry at the misery of Eminem's childhood..
It takes a particular talent to draw readers in despite themselves, in the way that this author was able to evoke such strong emotions about one of the main characters - I mean, I started reading and as the pages passed - I hated him, I was disgusted by him.. I was angry about how the other characters reacted to him..
How many books are that well-written?
It's like one of those movies when you cover your eyes with your hands - and then despite yourself, start peeping through your fingers..
