A Great Stress Buster!,
By Native New Yorker (Currently in Texas.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Behind the Gardens (Audio CD)
I first heard Andreas Vollenweider's CD, "Behind The Gardens", playing in a bookstore in New York City in the 1980s and was immediately drawn to it.
Since purchasing my first copy of that CD, I have heard him and his group play at Radio City Music Hall, and have either spontaneously given away my copies of this CD to others or else purchased new copies of it to give as gifts. So far, all of the people I have given this music to have liked it. I recently purchased another copy for myself from Amazon.com since I had given away my previous copy and missed it. I had sent it to someone in another country who I knew was stressed out and I hoped that the music would help her. I currently have the music playing in my PC. If you are feeling worried, fearful, or upset, I highly recommend that you get yourself a copy of this CD. The added bonus of this version of the CD which I purchased from Amazon is that it includes both extra music tracks as well as video material. As usual, Amazon provided great service and I thank them for that.

I had this CD many years ago, loaned it someone and it was never returned. It was one of my favourites. Now I have purchased it again and it is even better than my original CD with added features. I am over the moon and very pleased with my purchase. Also Amazon delivered very promptly, way under the estimated receiving time.

Bringing back sweet memories,

My parents and my hippy-uncle used to have this album on vinyl. I always loved this album. Listening to this now really brings me back a few years (read: a lot of years). It's very relaxed music to work by. Electrical harps usually r not my thing but mr. Vollenweider knows how to make them sound beautiful and relaxing. I'm surprised that even now this album survived the musical times. Every note/sound on this album is a joy to listen to. Great style. Love this stuff! Not for anyone though... but heh, that's a big 'duh' :)

I had never heard of Andreas Vollenweider before that day. It was 1992 and a friend handed me a cassette tape and said, "give this a listen and tell me what you think, it's gonna blow you away". I had always thought my musical tastes were wide and varied. Well, my musical tastes became even more wdely varied that day. "Behind the Gardens, Behind the Wall, Under the Tree" was so unique and different I couldn't stop listening to it. I simply had to hear more of this new musician. His music was cutting edge, a classic harp taken to a new level through electric amplification. A virtuoso pushing the envelope and expressing his mind and heart through his instrument, the human voice and anything else that makes noise. I own virtually everything he has released and I can't get enough. I will forever be excited wondering just what is coming next. His original style still remains today yet he is not afraid to follow his heart anywhere it leads him. He is a true musical explorer. This album is a great starting point for any new listener interested in Andreas Vollenweider and his musical friends. Enjoy !

Relaxing, beautiful music - electronic harp is unique. The artist was originally discovered by Carly Simon years ago when she heard his recording in a boutique. Great for driving or soothing jangled nerves.

MUSIC FOR A NEW AGE,

LIKE THE THREE ALBUMS THAT FOLLOWED THIS RELEASE, THEY WERE ALL AHEAD OF THE TIMES. MORE THAN RELAXING OR BACKGROUND MUSIC. THIS MUSIC MOVES YOU TO ANOTHER PLACE, BE IT BACK TO TIMES WHEN LIFE WAS INNOCENT AND CARE FREE, OR AHEAD TO ZONES THAT WE HAVE YET TO DISCOVER.
