This review is from: Behind the Midway (Audio CD)
A friend and I were at an Iris DeMent concert in Annapolis, Maryland when Jason Wilber did a surprise "opening act" for Iris. My friend bought this album at the concert. We came home after the concert and ended up staying awake half the night listening to it. I ordered my own copy the next day!

Track 10, Ballad of Amazing Grace and Sideshow Dan, alone is "worth the price of admission." The songs are simple yet deep, refreshing yet sometimes reminiscent of the great John Prine, whom Jason backs up on tour. John joins Jason on Track 8, Galway Waltz, which is a nice treat. The songs "Great 28" and Goin' Fishin'" rock.

This is a fine, quality recording with lots of bottom (string bass). After experiencing Jason perform in concert the songs from the as yet unheared CD with just his acoustic guitar, it was cool to then hear the songs come alive on the CD with all of the backup musicians in full gear. Jason is extremely talented, very pleasant (chat and photos after the concert), and very cool!

4.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Release From Wilber, March 27, 2006

This review is from: Behind the Midway (Audio CD)
I bought "Behind the Midway" the same day I picked Jason Wilber's other album at the time, "Lost in Your Hometown." Suffice to say, I was glad I did. A bit more mellow than "Lost," Behind the Midway is nonetheless another great singer-songwriter album with roots in everything from Americana to country to rock. Stand-outs from this cd include Lay Down When You're Done, Indian Summer, and It's Not Saturday. Wilber has been playing lead guitar and mandolin for John Prine for years now and Prine makes a guest appearance on this cd. Well worth owning. Pick it up.
