5.0 out of 5 stars Again and Again
I originally purchased this movie directly from the producers, Feature Films for Families. 3.0 out of 5 stars Pagan Virtues?
Although this movie does intentionally go about the task of teaching moral values to children, it might do this in a manner that is too "Pagan" for members of the Christian-right. And that is the one thing that I find appealing about this movie. It was refreshing to see moral values taught within the context of pre-Christian northern European mythology (featuring Gary...

5.0 out of 5 stars Again and Again, May 22, 2009
This review is from: Behind the Waterfall (DVD)
I originally purchased this movie directly from the producers, Feature Films for Families. Being a single mother of two children who were very young at the time, it was important to me to know that the entertainment made available to them was of a morally upstanding nature; entertainment that was not only fun to watch, but that taught important lessons in kindness, faith and self-esteem.

Now, 12 years later, the VHS tape we originally purchased is stretched and worn thin. This movie has been watched over and over, well worth every penny spent. Now I am purchasing it on DVD to restablish it's place in our movie library, and also to make it available to up and coming young family members. I believe they deserve a chance to see great movies, too.

This review is from: Behind the Waterfall (DVD)
If you're looking for a family movie with out having to fwd or preview the movie first this is the one for you. It does rely heavily on creativity and imagination as well as celtic fables. All and all I give it an A+.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST SEE FAMILY MOVIE..., November 10, 2004

WILL DO (LEES SUMMIT) - See all my reviews
THIS MOVIE TELLS TWO STORIES AND INTERWEAVES THEM MASTERFULLY ! ONE STORY IS ABOUT THE FAITH AND OPTIMISM OF CHILDREN AND THE ADULTS WHO TRY TO ENCOURAGE OR DISCOURAGE THESE CHILDREN. THE PERFORMANCES ARE MESMERIZING, ESPECIALLY GARY BURGOFF'S PERFORMANCE. THE SCENERY AND THE SOUNDTRACK ARE BREATHTAKING. I DO WISH I COULD FIND THE SOUNDTRACK FOR SALE.

MY CHILDREN AND THEIR FRIENDS HAVE WATCHED THIS MOVIE OVER AND OVER AGAIN AND I HAVE NEVER SEEN A CHILD DISSATISFIED OR AN ADULT WHO WAS NOT ENTERTAINED.

DON'T MISS THIS MOVIE !

5.0 out of 5 stars Find your inner leprechaun and dance in the fairy circle!!!, January 14, 2005
This review is from: Behind the Waterfall (DVD)
A refreshing way to teach basic appreciation for the abundance in our world that we take for granted. Shown in a perspective that does not focus on any one religion, we are reminded that it is our own thoughts that create our experience of life. Take time to listen to the wind, and your inner silence that guides you. Very lighthearted and whimsical, this movie holds your attention, and delights your inner child. This has become my favorite all time movie to promote love and understanding while having fun in the process.

This is one movie you wont mind your child watching over and over. And it won't hurt for you to kick back, forget your own problems and watch it too.

Some people need to see it to believe it, but here you learn that once you believe, then you can see. Find your inner leprechaun and dance in the fairy circle!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A rare gem of a truly family-friendly film., June 14, 2010
This review is from: Behind the Waterfall (DVD)
It is so rare these days to find family films without profanity-spewing kids,or full of toilet-humor and sexual innuendo, but this film has absolutely none of that filth! It is like a breath of fresh air,and is truly heartwarming, fun, and and entertaining.

Highly recommended for families who appreciate clean,non-offensive family entertainment.

4.0 out of 5 stars Helping Children, October 2, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Behind the Waterfall (DVD)
This movie is about kids struggling with life after their father dies. It has an old cobbler telling fairy and leprechaun stories and helping the kids see things differently. Like a tree is more that a tree is is a home to birds and Squirrels. This movie is fun to watch. The teenage sister doesn't know what to make of the old man but finds herself listening. Wether you watch this for fun or trying to help someone dealing with reality and going on in life it is a great family movie.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantasy Film for Kids, June 2, 2008

This film has a touch o-the-green fantasy. It also shows that miracles do happen and it is not due the the fantasy of lephrachan's. Good for children to teach good values.

4.0 out of 5 stars Behind the Waterfall, August 29, 2003

This is a great family video. It is a story about a boy who has lost his father, and a sister and aunt who need to find happiness---all of them find the joy and happiness in learning to listen for the promptings of God. Great family video to teach that God is a part of our lives and that there is hope even when life gets tuff. Staring Gary Burghoff.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pagan Virtues?, September 30, 2006
This review is from: Behind the Waterfall (DVD)
Although this movie does intentionally go about the task of teaching moral values to children, it might do this in a manner that is too "Pagan" for members of the Christian-right. And that is the one thing that I find appealing about this movie. It was refreshing to see moral values taught within the context of pre-Christian northern European mythology (featuring Gary Burgoff, Radar O'Reilly from "Mash," as a quasi-leprecaun). Of course, those behind the movie intended to sell moral virtues and not Pagan religion, but that's not really all that important from my point of view.

"Behind the Waterfall" was produced by a company called Feature Films For Families and is comparable to other movies from the same genre such as "Horse Crazy," "Friendship's Field," and "When Zarchary Beaver Came To Town." Like these other movies it features a sappy, sentimental, supposedly inspirational, yet unforgiveably mediocre song towards the end that is supposed to somehow sum up the message of the movie or otherwise enhance the climax of the plot in some way. These movies tend to adhere to certain rather irritating formulas, but when done right, they do have some redemption in terms of entertainment value. In fact, "Behind the Waterfall" is an example of such a movie that was done pretty close to right (as is "Horse Crazy"). It does not commit some of the unpardonable errors of "Friendship's Field" or "When Zachary Beaver Came To Town" and for this reason is worthy of three out of five stars!
