I have owned this mixer for a little over 6 months and could not be more pleased. The sound quality, inclusion of two high quality phantom power inputs, and configurability make this ideal for podcasting. This mixer has a small footprint considering the number of inputs it can handle and feels like a quality piece of gear. All controls have a firm feel.

There is no analog level meter, which keeps the cost and size of the unit down. However, there is a 5 segment LED that approximates input levels and signals red on clipping. Essentially this is all that is really needed and works quite well. If you record into software, that will give more precise levels if needed.

The cost of the unit is such that for most it leaves the budget available for a decent quality condenser mike which is just as essential, if not more so, for quality audio recording.

While the larger Xenyx models do include a built-in USB interface for immediate connection to a computer, this mixer does not. However, you can pick up either a USB or Firewire interface separately and inexpensively. I use the Behringer FCA202 firewire interface which works great and is also priced for tight budgets.

The signal path, described in the user guide with a diagram, is simple yet versatile. It is possible to interface to an external effects processor and also send a separate mix for control room or tape out purposes.

Most critical, as Behringer promises, the inputs are very clean. This value oriented mixer offers everything needed for basic recording,e.g. podcasting, with quality and durability.

I write reviews of equipment and software for a popular pro music magazine. I test things in my full studio but I like to have access to them while I am writing my review at my desk. The pro audio card I have in my desk PC has no analog stereo audio outs, only S/PDIF - AES/EBU Toslink or RCA. When I test audio plug-ins I need to get an audio signal out. Also, if the product I'm testing is an external device I need a way to handle its audio as well. Finally, I need to get analog signals to my powered monitors above the desk. This mixer meets all of these needs, works with both +4 and -10 signals, and has excellent audio characteristics in its line level paths. The only caveat is that it is a Behringer product. Because of the way their Chinese quality control program works, completely assembled units aren't tested (dont ask!). The result is that Behringer products that you receive and which work correctly will function for a lifetime (well maybe not a lifetime, but I have very complex Behringer stuff that I've had over 14 years, including a digital mixer with flying faders that works as well now as it did 14 years ago). So, don't be too surprised if you get a dead one (I average about 1 dead Behringer product for every 10 I buy! That being said, Amazon's return product policy is great.

Great little mixer! as usual you can't beat Behringer on price vs. features. My one complaint is that the effects loop is not well documented and have not been able to figure out the correct way to create one.

I purchased this in order to hook up my two wireless microphones to my setup and have control over each mic individually. The mixer is well made and has a quality feel. It does what I need it to do, but there is no on/off switch or button so you need to unplug it. There is also a very bright blue LED light on the top which is lit when it is plugged in that becomes very annoying. Minor things but enough to annoy you as to why they did not design better. Based on my research, the price for this mixer is very reasonable for the quality and I would purchase it again. Still working well as of right now after a having had it for a few months.

I wrote the below review for the Behringer XENYX 1002FX Mixer, which is identical to this unit except for the presence of a single-channel digital effects unit, which this model lacks. Thus, the following review is also applicable to this unit:

In the world of audio, this product would be the Toyota Corolla of mixers: it does everything that it claims to do reliably and without fuss, but the experience is nothing to write home about. With that said, this is a very low-end mixer and features basic components: it really should not be used in the presence of the 50,000 watt PA system or a large recording studio. I however purchased this mixer for use in a very simple PA setup, with two Samson SCQ6 Dynamic Super-Cardioid Handheld Mic and a computer audio input via RCA cables, and utilized a single stereo mix. For this simple setup this product provided user-friendly operation and an adequate sound quality.

The included microphone preamplifiers on this mixer are dubiously labeled as being "state-of-the-art XENYX microphone preamps." While I am not entirely sure what that means, they did provide adequate gain for a dynamic handheld mic in a wide variety of noise environments, and did not produce any audible noise in the output, even at their highest gain setting. I could not hear any noticeable preamp artifacts in the output through my 1,000-watt PA system, and both the talent and audience found the audio to be acceptable. Phantom power is provided, but is only selectable to either both channels or neither, although providing phantom power to a dynamic microphone should not cause issues if you have decent-quality cabling and microphones. Equalization is also provided for both microphone channels, via "Neo-classic 'British' 3-band EQs for warm and musical sound.
