Totally worth it. If you've ever had to fix an audio cable, you need one of these. At the price, they are less than half of similar products from other places (with the exact same chip and internals, just a different casing!). Sure you need to know about your cables and have to think about what the LEDs are telling you, but that's OK, that's why you bought the thing anyways.
The test tones are useful, but a little harsh sounding. (I think they might be square-wave, or modified-sine wave, so they doesn't sound that great). Intuitive interface. The main switch turns on easily in a bag (simply fixed with a piece of Gaff tape). Otherwise, no issues. If you are an audio tech. Get one now. Avoid the embarrassment of your musicians or speakers not being heard because of a dead XLR cable. Check your entire lot and fix or replace them now. It's great because you can test any combination of connectors on your cables (ie. XLR to 1/4 phone, XLR to XLR, TRS to miniphone, etc, etc). Oh, and the intermittent test feature is fantastic! Even helps you find RF noise on long audio-snake runs.

I needed a cable tester to troubleshoot my system. I called the company who built my 100' audio snake and asked the tech guy there what cable tester they use on their bench. He told me that they use the Behringer CT-100. If it's good enough for the people who build my equipment, I think it's probably good enough for me to use at home. I have been purchasing new Behringer gear for just over 2 years, and not one product of their's has ever failed me.
This CT-100 looks and feels exactly like my friend's Ebtech cable tester which cost twice as much money. I can't tell the difference between the two other than the logo and color. The CT-100 and the Ebtech both are solid metal cases which should hold up just fine in my gig bag. They both perform the same tests and functions. As far as I can tell, the only difference is in the price. Save yourself some money and get this unit.

Behringer CT-100 Cable Tester,

I have needed this for 40 years and it paid for itself in the first 15 minutes that I used it. I tested my XLR mic cables, TRS patch cords, and even my stereo headphone extensions (just connect a pre-tested TRS cable to the female end of the extension to make it Male-Male and connect it input to output). OR, just use the tone generator to test both the cable AND the headphones simultaneously. Especially handy if you make your own cables, like I do. Finds shorts, opens, miswires, and intermittents. Even tests cables with different families on each end. Now I don't have to root through my junk box to find something to jam onto the connector pins and then juggle my multimeter with three hands to test cables. Eliminates operator error, bulk testing procrastination, mountains of time, and that "Oh Spit!" in the field. I do indie film, and there's nothing like finding your last mic cable is open when there's no place to plug in your soldering iron. You can rest easier by quickly testing your cables before and after every shoot. Yes, I know it's a knock-off of by another maker, but paying 1/3 of that other price soothes some of the guilt. Indispensable piece of gear. Buy it (or its more expensive twin) right now - or else!

What a cool little device at such a small price to give such big results that keep you from such a colossal headache!
I had a bad cable in my recording setup. I would have had to go through about 30 cables to tell which one it was...but then I used this little baby and wala...7th cable in without having to do audio tests...there is was. A variable intermittent connection. Then I bought some 3" XLR calbes online. As soon as they came in I tested them. One was showing intermittent. I Tried it out to make certain and sure enough...it crackled when I moved around. I sent them all back...and from now on I will trust this little guy. Highly recommended!

Well built, works like it should. I intentionally faulted a cable and mixed it in with others. Didn't take long to find it again. Repaired it and I'm a happy camper. Worth every cent, get one.

It's just about the cheapest cable tester on the market, and here's the thing: It'll test just about every type of cable in your studio, it offers consistent readings, it's in a fairly sturdy metal housing, and it's about $20.00.
There are more rugged testers. There are testers that support network cables and various other types of readings. But this one most likely has what you need, and it's most likely cheaper than any other one you'd compare it to. Get it! On a side-note: The screws for the battery cover and belt clip are extremely soft metal and require a small screw-driver. I stripped the screw on my first unit the first time I tried to take the battery cover off. Amazon replaced it, I got the new one the following day in the mail, and it was missing the belt clip and documentation entirely. Amazon replaced that one as well, I got the new one today, and it is working perfectly. I'm now very happy with it. Cheap, but solid, construction--what you can expect from Behringer. But where their low-end audio processors might negatively color your sound, you have no worries of that sort of thing here--as a cable tester, it does it's job as well as any other, and it never touches your music :)

The Behringer CT100 is an excellent tester and well built to last a long time. I like the fact that it detects an intermittent short or open and "latches" that indication in it's display lights. Have not used all of the features.
A chart of the display lights for good conditions of each cable type would have been helpful.

This is a great tool to have with you when dealing with recording and PA audio system. It is easy to use for checking cables, and the tone generator is a real help when you don't know where you have a break in your cables. Highly Recommended

I used an Ebtech Swizz Army Cable Tester for a few years until it got stolen, but during that time had borrowed or otherwise used one of these often enough to realize there's no difference between the two as far as design, construction or functionality. So I bought the CT100 to replace my stolen Ebtech, at one-third the price. Like the Ebtech, this is built like a tank. It's simple to use, though as another reviewer noted, understanding what the LED patterns signify can be confusing at first. While both the Ebtech and the Behringer have skimpy, almost worthless user "manuals" - we're talking about tiny foldout papers - the Ebtech version at least has a few illustrations of how to interpret the LED patterns in determining whether a cable has a fault or not. Apart from that, there's really nothing to dislike about this unit, unless you're hung up on how similar (identical except for the color!) it is to its competitor and dislike the copy aspect. Great product.

I provide music ministry for St. Germaine Catholic Church in Prescott Valley, AZ. Several times recently, my microphone would cut out. The problem appeared to be with the microphone cable, yet there were no signs of the cable having any loose or broken wires. This tester proved the problem was with the contacts in the connector at the microphone end. They were apparently slightly enlarged (female contacts) allowing occasional open circuit conditions on any one of the three contacts. This tester proved that just a slight movement of the connector resulted in one of the three contacts becoming open circuit. I purchased a new connector and now the cable is perfect again. Ringing out the cable with an ohm meter had not shown the problem, since the actual wires were not the issue.
