I purchased this microphone for use with my laptop, TrueRTA software and the MXL USB MicMate for frequency response measurement. I am quite satisfied with the results. The microphone is not provided with a unique specific calibration curve however. Instead, a general calibration curve is provided on the box.
At the moment Parts Express is offering what appears to be a calibrated version of this mic for a few extra $$, which may be a better value to the DIYer.

Good quality for Behringer,

I bought two of these to use as measurement mics and also for a spaced pair of omnis for concert recording. They come in a nice hard case with a windscreen and a mic clip.
I have owned Behringer products in the past and the quality control was bad. Both of the mics I own here are good. They have a pretty flat response and work well as inexpensive measurement mics. I used them to tune my home theatre system with a computer program. As for music recording, these mics sounded nice on piano and guitar. They are a little noisy, which is no surprise at this price-point, but as long as you have a nice level of sound coming into them, there should be no problem. The spaced omni stereo recording for a local music concert came out well, but nothing to write home about. If you have never tried an omni for music recording, take a shot with these. They're fun to experiment with and they're cheap enough not to regret.

I have been using and testing with this mic now for about a month and found it to be a great value for the money. Its response is very flat and the frequency response is as advertised. Definitely a good beginning cal mic. Highly recommended for basic work.

i got this mic to do room measurements using room analysis software. apparently you really should use a true omni for these types of measurements. this mic is a true omni. it is also pretty flat (again crucial for room analysis). and the price is right.
you could use this mic for other applications but you should know its very noisy. if you don't have any true omnis this may be a cheap way to get introduced to them.

This mike was not in stock at most stores so I was in doubt of receiving it, but the store delivered. It is rugged and the quality is superb for the price. I used it to align my system and was amazed with the improvements in sound quality.

Good for the money.,

For room analysis this is a great mic especially for traveling or in situations where using an Earthwork's mic (6x the cost of this) could be damaged.
Much better than the Behringer name would imply, but that can be fixed with a quick piece of tape over the logo ;) |
