Yes, it's pretty big, but well worth it!

While you can configure it via clicks of the pedals that process is entirely unintuitive and even if it were easy the manual is quite difficult to understand.

You also have to buy a midi to usb cord.

There are no viable alternatives for a foot controller at or near this price point with the flexibility that this thing has.

Yes, it can be fairly challenging to program, but I spent a couple days simply researching online how others are using it with Ableton Live, and now the programming is not only easy, but fairly intuitive. I am controlling all aspects of Ableton Live (arming of tracks, navigating the session view, launching and stopping clips and scenes, etc.) completely hands free. As a guitar player, this is an essential piece of gear to truly get the most out of the app.

The previous reviewer who stated that it's useless for Ableton simply didn't understand how to program it to work with the software. What he was looking to do is easily done by configuring the pedal to send midi note information instead of CC messages. These behave exactly as he needed, allowing you to toggle anything on and off at will. Also, no need at all to get the 3rd party firmware (UNO) upgrade. Everything I'm doing with Ableton, I'm doing with the stock firmware. I have ordered the UNO firmware only because I want to experiment with some of its features, but it's NOT needed to control Ableton at all.

Build quality is very good. Expression pedals are a bit flimsy feeling, but all else seems solidly put together.

5 stars if the expression pedals were a bit nicer, but at this price it's a no-brainer. There's nothing else out there that gives you this much control.

This is not plug-n-play. If you are hooking this up to ableton or similar midi driven daw, you will need to reprogram the unit to send the proper global signals. This is super easy with freeware tools such as 'fcb1010 pc editor'. Also make sure you install the fcb1010 python scripts for use in ableton.

Let me re-iterate. This is NOT plug-n-play. Unless you have midi supported hardware that this device was designed to pair with, you will need to hack at it to get it right. It will take a long time, and you may get angry at it. But once you do, oh man oh man! You have one amazing controller with a crazy amount of options.

5 stars for the tinkering musician/producer/performer
0 stars if you want plug-n-play

PS - I suggest you buy the UNO eprom chip to expand its functionality even further.

I use it to control my Line6 PODxt, and they work perfectly together if you download the proper bank settings for the job, or you set up your own, which is a pain in the foot (literally) if you do it "manually". I found a
software app in a FCB yahoo group that allows you to set it up using your computer, which is great.

I've used it to control my Korg Karma keyboard as well, and even to control my Sonar 5 Production (to start/stop recording for instance). All fine.

In short, the product works very well for what it's meant to. You might need to get your hands a bit dirty with
the setting-up, but once you understand how it works you'll realize you could even control your microwave oven with
this if it had a MIDI IN port :O)

Pros:
The pedal feels very sturdy and well built, it was heavier than I expected, which I see as a good thing. I know that Behringer gets a lot of crap about being poorly made, but the FCB1010 is definitely made to last.

For the price, this is by far the best option thats out there. I use this pedal with MainStage 2 and I use it as a guitar pedal board and as well as a foot controller for my keyboard and I have used other midi controllers and this is as good and reliable as it gets.

Cons:
I did not know that it will take me hours of scampering on youtube and online forums to understand how to program the foot switches. I always thought midi CC learn was pretty simple... but it was not in this case. After hours of work I realized that following the instructions on the manual did not do squat. It was very frustrating. I have been a gigging musician with midi for over 7 years now and I think I know the basics of getting my gear routed correctly, but this baffled me to the point of almost returning it

I did not know that I had to buy a 3rd party software to program the FCB1010. So if you are planning on buying this pedal don't waste your time in trying to program the pedal, just pay the $19.95 and buy the iFCB software. This will save you a lot of trouble

So in conclusion:

Its a great pedal, but be prepared to spend some extra cash in buying the iFCB software or be prepared to spend many frustrating hours trying to understand its mysterious ways.

I would have given this a 5 star if the pedal came with its own software for free.

The construction is good, preset 10 sends note events so it's easy to use in ableton live. However, one pedal only modulates a CC from 0 - 100, i cant figure out how to make it go to 127. the other pedal modulates something else entirely that i cant map in ableton live. I would change them, but it is pretty impossible to program this thing unless you are on the engineering team that built it. They should have at least included a software editor that lets you send configurations to the device. Here's hoping for a version 2.0 with a smarter UI.

The expression pedals aren't as solid or smooth as a real guitar volume pedal like the ernie ball volume pedal.
The buttons work, and 10 of them send midi commands, while 2 switch banks.

overall, it is a solid piece, but it is difficult to program, and the built in settings seem slightly limited, although it works great in ableton live for my uses (triggering loops and such). if all you are needing is a bunch of foot button inputs, it's great. if you want solid pedal action, look elsewhere. If you want to use this with other MIDI gear, you better be a wizard cause reading the manual and understanding the programming sequences is one of the great challenges a human can face on this planet.
