What I use it for:
- This is the board that I carry with me for on-site recording jobs; connects into my laptop via USB

- Built-in USB interface (plug and play drivers)
- 3-band EQ for all channels, and built-in compressor for channels 1 and 2

- Noisy circuitry
- Heats up

- The EQ and compressor introduce extra noise. If you can, record without it, and apply these digitally. (That is, keep all the knobs at zero.)
- Don't use the same wall plug for the board and whatever you're recording into
- The panning also tends to be noisy
- Individual levels' volume adjustments are cleaner than the Main Mix. If you can adjust the individual channels' knobs up instead of the main mix, do that.

So you CAN start podcasting with a webcam or a chat headset or a USB microphone. And if that's all you got I highly recommend starting your podcast and concentrating on content and marketing your podcast. Make people want to listen to you for your wit or information or your entertainment value. Your sound won't matter. And I truly wish you well. Many people have successfully done this in the past. Don't feel like to HAVE to buy this mixer and associated gear to start podcasting. This is just a nicety to have,

But if you have a desire to sound better this Behringer Xenxy Q802USB mixer is an excellent way to step up your sound at a low price. Yes, it is not the best mixer possible but used in a combination of M-Audio AV40 monitors or Sennheisser HD201 headphones with a dynamic vocal cardioid microphone like the Behringer XM1800S and your choice of microphone stands (possibly a Audio-Technical AT8410A microphone shock mount as well) you can really gain performance. You won't obtain perfect sound - the mixer does have some negligible low noise to it - but as far as podcasting goes you will never be able to discern it. Basically with this mixer and the right microphone and monitors/headphones you can pick up your sound game for well under $300. Actually it amazes me the sound that can come out of this mixer. You can duplicate the same sort of sound as far as podcasting goes that you would hear in a $10,000 equipped sound studio 10 years ago.

If you are planning on using this mixer to podcast at home and you have what is basically a home computer desk like I do the small size of the mixer is a huge benefit. It takes up an incredible small amount of desk space.

The Behringer Q802USB is a fantastic mixer for the home recorder. I have recorded podcast and voice material with it and really enjoy it. Behringer products are very affordable - some view them as cheap - but this is a darn functional mixer that does a great job with very good noise floor.

This is a "full feature" mixer with FX send/return, USB, two XLR inputs and really high quality mic preamps. I'm a tube amplification fan, so I wanted to use a tube mic preamp for the mic inputs but it is really completely unnecessary. The preamps are great when set correctly.

I like that the mixer has high/med/low EQ. The compressor is useful but I would prefer to compress in post production. It would be great for live.

If you want to do a podcast with Skype involved, you can use the infamous "mix-minus". It's not as hard as it sounds. The USB faculty isn't all that convenient - you could do much the same sending the outputs to a USB sound card or line input.

I wish it had actual faders to make it more "professional" but this thing is plain great.

If you want to invest in a Heath Zed10 - that's an awesome unit. If you want a Mr. Mackie - MKayyy mixer - that's a great unit. Even the Alesis mixers have great build - but this one has it all, which if you compare similar specs, this model is a great value. The Alesis Multimix 4 is no comparison for this mixer.

CON - the only thing I don't like about the mixer is the lack of power switch. Why? I fixed that with a $2 switch added onto an extension cord.

The only things that would make this unit better is USB bus power and an actual power switch but it uses more power than USB provides so I can live with it.

I bought this mixer to use my Heil GM-12 mic with my Yaesu FT-857D along with using it on my computer for Skype, Ovoo and Echolink. The Behringer Xenyx Q802USB seems to have all the features I wanted in an inexpensive mixer. I like the built-in compression on the first two channels. This allows me to turn off the Mic processor built into my FT-857D and still have a consistent audio level. The EQ works well for notching out some of the noise on the bands by running the audio out of the radio to a channel on the board and turning down the highs and boosting the mids. The USB feature works great on Skype, Ovoo, and Echolink. The free download software from Behringer once you register the product allows me to record both ends of the QSO. I also can use the mixer to provide the audio portion of a video when I use my webcam and logitech software. Shipping from the seller was timely and it arrived in the projected delivery time. I recommend this mixer to anyone who is looking for an inexpensive solution for a Ham Radio installation as well as pod casters or anyone who uses Skype or Ovoo. My experience with the seller was also great and would recommend using them to anyone.
