4.0 out of 5 stars A cheap way to get preamp and phantom power
I've had the mixer for about a week. Basically it is a nice cheap way to get phantom power and a microphone preamp with a mixer thrown in! It all seems to work fine but it is the first mixer I've owned and used, so I don't have a lot to compare it against.. So far I think the unit is pretty good.

I've had the mixer for about a week. Basically it is a nice cheap way to get phantom power and a microphone preamp with a mixer thrown in! It all seems to work fine but it is the first mixer I've owned and used, so I don't have a lot to compare it against.. So far I think the unit is pretty good.

a few things to note.
1. There is no on/off switch. (I can live with out one, really)

2. The phantom power doesn't seem to turn off when you turn the phantom power switch off. The condenser mic keeps working and the phantom light stays lit. However if you unplug the unit the led slowly goes out and when you replug the power the phantom power is off (no mic sound or lit LED). Press phantom power on again an the mic works and the led goes on.

I think there might be some hefty power supply capacitors in the box considering how long the red led stays lit when the power is disconected. So maybe the phantom power will eventually run out after you switch it off. I haven't been patient enough to find out.

3. The pre-amp gain for dynamic microphones doesn't seem to be enough to use dynamic microphone at a distance greater than say 1 foot without noise becoming a problem. This was with an unbalanced output from the mic. I've yet to see if noise is a problem with a balances output from the dynamic mic. But more gain for dynamic microphone would be good.

4. However with a condenser mic (I use the audio technica AT2020) the gain available is fine, I'd like a little more but it is OK. Noise is pretty much zero at the levels I use.

5. The apparent somewhat limited gain makes it hard to balance the input from both my condenser and dynamic mic without winding back the gain on the condenser and max-ing out the gain for the dynamic (noise!).

However , it is deadly cheap but offers fabulous value for money. You get two mic inputs with phantom power, reasonable gain and other stuff as extras. In fact if I needed more mic inputs I'd probably buy another ub805 and plug it into the first ub805 as it would still be much cheaper than getting any 4 mic input mixer even the behringers own ub1205.

go for it dudes

5.0 out of 5 stars Great entry level mixer, May 26, 2005
By
This review is from: Behringer UB802 Eurorack Mixer (8 Inputs) (Electronics)
I purchased this to take my music recording to another level.

I hooked my UB802 to my PC via the Line In socket on my soundcard. My MXL 990 Cardioid Condenser Mic and my keyboard are plugged into the mixer and I'm getting some great results.

The manual is small but is enough to get you started. It doesn't bog you down with too much technical jargon and gives you a chance to get stuck in right away.

If you are new to mixers and want to play around with PC digital recording or other mixing forms, then this is a great product to learn with.

Highly recommended for beginners.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Mixer, Great Price, November 11, 2005

Don't let the size or the price fool you. The Behringer Eurorack UB802 Mixer is a clean and feature filled mixer. I use it with my laptop to do voice work while on the road and have been truly impressed. The quality of the sound is very solid and the pre-amp is very smooth. It allows me to do return/send to hear playback and record at the same time and the EQ's give me the control to bump up the tone when needed. The headphone level is loud enough to hear the mix. I mean...good grief. At this price it's worth that just as a backup! But, it would make a great mixer for anyone with minimal input needs. Of course, if you're doing a multi-mic studio session, then you'd need to go up to another model with more XLR inputs. The key is that it sounds great.

It does not have a power On/Off switch but that isn't a problem for me. Plus, the VU lights are minimal if you depend on that to set levels. But, in my mind, Behringer put the money in what was important. Small size, great features, solid smooth pre-amp and flexibility in setup.

Why buy a Mackie? Behringer makes GREAT products at a VERY reasonable price. I have two Behringer mixers, the UB802 and a 1604 and I'm extremely happy with both.

I use the 802 as a mixer between my computers to a single set of speakers and have enough inputs to plug in my guitar as well. The 802 is also very quiet. If you need a simple mixer for a great price, the 802 is it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Quality for the Money!, January 14, 2007
This review is from: Behringer UB802 Eurorack Mixer (8 Inputs) (Electronics)
I needed a simple, compact, but high quality mixer with a phantom power supply so I could do recording at home for clients of my voicework, and to do overflow VO work at home to bring in to use at the radio station I work at. Based on specs, inspection of the product, Behringer's good reputation and the "green light" on the unit from an engineer friend, I bought the UB802. This turned out to be a brilliant move! The mic preamps seem excellent, the features are superb - EQ settings on each pot are right were I would have wanted them to peak. Lots of configurability, lots of headroom.. this little puppy's doing work on a major L.A. radio station now! Prefect match for my AKG condenser mic, Turtle Beach Soundcard, Adobe Audition and laptop.. I now have a beautiful little totally portable sound studio! A device of this quality at this price would have been unthinkable a few years ago. It's certainly better than the equipment I was using and making a living on at major radio stations 20 years ago. If you can still grab one of these, go for it! You will not be disappointed!!

5.0 out of 5 stars All you need for a podcast, February 2, 2007
This review is from: Behringer UB802 Eurorack Mixer (8 Inputs) (Electronics)
All the reviews are true. If you want to start a podcast, this is pretty much all you need for a mixer. Great price, it's compact, and it works fine.

5.0 out of 5 stars GETS THE JOB DONE AND SATISFIES THE END USER!, January 18, 2010
This review is from: Behringer UB802 Eurorack Mixer (8 Inputs) (Electronics)
I purchased the Eurotrack UB802 mixer for the purpose of podcasting based on a recommendation in the Shel Holtz bookHow to Do Everything with Podcasting and the product delivered the results! If you are on a budget and not looking to produce or engineer the next U2, Jay-Z or Lady GaGa recording than this could be the mixer for you. There is also a 10 page instruction manual which includes easy set up and specs. High quality and simple to use. I recommend!!!

This review is to back up what has been already said. Once I spilled some water all over it and immediately unplugged it after leaving it powered for over a year. I noticed some distortion in the signal immediately over the loudspeakers when I spilled, but I calmly (but totally bumming) unplugged it and placed it upside down in front of a fan to dry it. The next day I set it up and the damn thing sounds sharp as ever. Since then I've been running it as a low level mixer for phantom power mics and such. There really isn't any need to buy a better phantom power module unless you are willing to shell out the gold, because as advertised there is no audible noise when you learn how to adjust the mono track gain and level with the master bus level, just use balanced outs/ins to get a complete sound from your condenser microphones. Mark my words, Behringer products will be the stuff that future musicians label as good vintage equipment in the way that we rely on the good old stuff now.

I bought the UB802 originally just to have a small mixer for bringing in a few more things when recording. At the price, I didn't expect much.

What a pleasant surprise! It's rugged, clean, set up well (once you get used to such a small board) and over a year after I bought it, I can say that in all the projects I've used it, it has never let me down yet.

If you're looking for a small board or are just starting out and looking for something affordable to learn on, but you don't want something you'll just be replacing in 6 months or a couple years..I'd rank the UB802 as an excellent choice. Ask anybody who works with sound and they can tell you, there's no such thing as an "extra" little mixer. If it holds up good and sounds good, you'll always find places for it in your studio or gig.

This is a good one. Kudos to Behringer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid Inexpensive Mixer, December 9, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Behringer UB802 Eurorack Mixer (8 Inputs) (Electronics)
It works well- in fact it has a lot more features than I need but was still the best value for doing my simple mixing. I use the mixer to take the outputs of a couple computers and a tape deck, mix them, and send them to some powered speakers and my headphones. The one thing I wish it did have was a power button, but the lack of one is clearly documented in other reviews so I wasn't caught by surprise.
