Product Description

High-quality USB Audio Interface with Built-in Phono Preamp and Massive Software Package for Digitalizing Your Tapes and Vinyl Records.

Love Your Old Records and Cassette Tapes?

We love ours too! That’s why we built the UFO202 — a simple, affordable way to get your records and vinyl tapes into the digital realm. The UFO202 is easy to use and comes with a bevy of professional software that not only converts your favorite recordings into files on your computer, but also removes those annoying scratches and pops so common to vinyl media. State of- the-art, switchable Line/Phono preamps and digital converters ensure the utmost in sound quality, making the U-PHONO UFO202 Audio Interface a must-have for every audiophile.

PC and Mac Ready

This ultra-compact, USB-powered device lets you connect your PC or Mac computer to virtually any piece of audio gear. It gets its power from your computer’s USB bus, so no external power supply or batteries are required. And the UFO202 requires no special setup or drivers—just plug it in to a free USB port and start recording.

Extreme Versatility The UFO202 features a stereo input for connecting turntables or any line-level device (such as a mixer or tape deck), plus a stereo analog output for connecting active speakers or studio monitors. You can also connect electronic keyboards, sound modules, drum machines and line-level devices (such as the V-AMP 3) directly to your computer for recording. The Volume control allows you to set the level of the stereo headphones.

Powerful Recording Interface When used as a professional interface between a mixing console and your computer, myriad options become available. Some of these might include connecting the UFO202’s RCA outputs to the TAPE INPUT jacks of your mixer or active monitors, or directly into the input channels of the mixer. Connecting to mixer input channels gives you access to equalization and allows the use of the AUX Send features of your mixer to build extremely versatile monitor mixes for your recording sessions.

Software

Tons of Free Software

Because you’ll want to take full advantage of the UFO202’s podcasting and recording potential we’ve included a massive software package including Audacity, Podifier, Juice, Podnova and Golden Ear. You also get more than 150 virtual instruments and effects plug-ins, turning your computer into a complete home-based or mobile recording studio from input to output.

energyXT2.5 Compact BEHRINGER Edition Included

When you’re ready to take your recording projects to the next level, XT Software’s energyXT is just the trick. This amazing DAW (digital audio workstation) makes it easy to manipulate your audio and MIDI files, turning song ideas into stunning CD or web-ready recordings. energyXT includes its own multi-FX processor, built-in synthesizers and a drum machine, both of which can be accessed directly via an external controller (such as our UMA25S or UMX25) or programmed in step-write mode.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked like a charm, November 30, 2009

Worked great! I plugged the UFO202 interface into my PC running XP, then connected my Music Hall turntable (and ground wire) to the UFO202. I didn't use the included software bundle as I already have a licensed copy of Sound Forge 9. It did a great job of recording my vinyl, with no trace of hum. Great price, too!

4.0 out of 5 stars FYI: this also works as a USB-powered amp, December 1, 2009

Just started using this, so I can't say *too* much about it, but I wanted to make sure that everyone knew that you don't actually need an external audio source like a record player to use this if you've got it plugged into a computer. It's possible simply to use this as a small, USB-powered amp if you need one. I have a Mac Mini running as a media center, and all I had to do was plug this in, choose it as the Out audio source in OSX Preferences, hook up my receiver and bang, it's a clean sounding audioboost that doesn't require an external power supply. You can even split the Audio out USB signal through both the phono and headphones jacks, which I may do. Anyway, seems pretty useful so far!

4.0 out of 5 stars Does What It Says, December 20, 2009

I just finished digitizing three albums using the UFO202 and had no issues. The sound recorded faithful to the source and my MP3s sound as good as expected - by that I mean they sound as good as 25 year old vinyl records originally recorded on analog equipment can sound. Don't expect your recordings to sound like the remastered CDs that are being released.

The only reason I do not give this five stars is because I found the software (which IS voluminous) to be sorely lacking in documentation and explanation as to purpose. The Amazon description says something about "Audacity vinyl restoration, noise-reduction, editing and recording software". Actually it's plain ol' Audacity software that can be downloaded for absolutely free. While it's easy enough to use and there are "noise-reduction", "editing" and "recording" abilities, there's nothing that makes it specialized to "vinyl restoration".

I do know there is software available (at varying prices) that allow the user to record an album side and the software will section into individual songs by using the song breaks. Not this software...at least that I've been able to figure out.

Other than (what I would characterize as) "overselling" the software included, the product did exactly what it was designed for, was extremely easy to use, and pretty affordable.
