5.0 out of 5 stars Worked like a charm
Worked great! I plugged the UFO202 interface into my PC running XP, then connected my Music Hall turntable (and ground wire) to the UFO202. I didn't use the included software bundle as I already have a licensed copy of Sound Forge 9. It did a great job of recording my vinyl, with no trace of hum. Great price, too!

versus
2.0 out of 5 stars Still a little skeptical...
It has worked ok for me...but initially it took me a few hours to figure how to record without having the sound to loud when recording directly from my turntable. I have it working...but the setting to manage the volume of incoming audio is not very useful -or- I am not understanding something. If the recording level is on a scale of 1 to 20 - if I move the level much...

4.0 out of 5 stars FYI: this also works as a USB-powered amp, December 1, 2009

Just started using this, so I can't say *too* much about it, but I wanted to make sure that everyone knew that you don't actually need an external audio source like a record player to use this if you've got it plugged into a computer. It's possible simply to use this as a small, USB-powered amp if you need one. I have a Mac Mini running as a media center, and all I had to do was plug this in, choose it as the Out audio source in OSX Preferences, hook up my receiver and bang, it's a clean sounding audioboost that doesn't require an external power supply. You can even split the Audio out USB signal through both the phono and headphones jacks, which I may do. Anyway, seems pretty useful so far!

I just finished digitizing three albums using the UFO202 and had no issues. The sound recorded faithful to the source and my MP3s sound as good as expected - by that I mean they sound as good as 25 year old vinyl records originally recorded on analog equipment can sound. Don't expect your recordings to sound like the remastered CDs that are being released.

The only reason I do not give this five stars is because I found the software (which IS voluminous) to be sorely lacking in documentation and explanation as to purpose. The Amazon description says something about "Audacity vinyl restoration, noise-reduction, editing and recording software". Actually it's plain ol' Audacity software that can be downloaded for absolutely free. While it's easy enough to use and there are "noise-reduction", "editing" and "recording" abilities, there's nothing that makes it specialized to "vinyl restoration".

I do know there is software available (at varying prices) that allow the user to record an album side and the software will section into individual songs by using the song breaks. Not this software...at least that I've been able to figure out.

Other than (what I would characterize as) "overselling" the software included, the product did exactly what it was designed for, was extremely easy to use, and pretty affordable.

I have it working...but the setting to manage the volume of incoming audio is not very useful -or- I am not understanding something. If the recording level is on a scale of 1 to 20 - if I move the level much past a 2 - my recordings are clipped and sound bad - not much of a useful feature. Frustrated with the software and how to make the recordings sound better - without being TOO LOUD!

4.0 out of 5 stars Worked on HP and Samsung Netbook, June 4, 2010

This device worked pretty well, interestingly, cassette tapes sounded better than vinyl. As one reviewer mentioned, absolutely horrible documentation. You really are on your own in trying to figure out how to get the best quality mp3 file out. We ended up using Audiograbber as it could detect the gaps between songs and thus you could play the whole side of a record and have it automatically make the files for you. Some amplification or normalization is needed, otherwise sound quality is pretty crappy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really Works ... and works well!, May 18, 2010

I have always used my stereo hooked up to the sound card in my desktop to convert lp's and cassettes to mp3. However, as I am getting ready to retire that machine and replace it with a laptop, which does not have a dedicated sound card, I was looking for a way to continue my "long term" conversion project (I have a lot of lp's and tapes!!!).

I found this on Black Friday sale at Amazon at a price hard to resist. Well, although I haven't tried converting an lp yet, this thing works great with cassettes, and I don't even need the stereo receiver. I found a used cassette deck for practically nothing and hooked this gizmo up to it and I am back in the conversion business. My XP machine recognized the unit immediately and my results have been as good as before using my full stereo hooked up to a desktop!!!

As far as software goes, I have not tried any of the included bundle as I have always used and like MS Plus! Digital Media Edition. Its simple, very user friendly, and except for the fact it only saves music as .WMA has few downsides.

I would highly recommend this device to anyone with a lot of music you want to enjoy on your computer, ipod, or on cd.

5.0 out of 5 stars LP's to Digital music, February 12, 2010

Congrats to Behringer for creating this hardware. It beats purchasing a USB turntable and the cost. The UFO202 is a great buy and it does what its said to do. I have converted several LP's and written them out to CD's. The free software, Audacity, works wonders with removing clicks and pops. I would recommend this product to anyone interested in converting their old vinyl.

Took a little research to get all the right equipment, but now I'm in LP heaven.
My old Technics player, new stylus and software called LP Recorder and LP Ripper
plus the Behringer UFO202. Simple as can be.

Works as stated. Was able to record vinyl albums to MP3.
Software provides an enhancer to remove the crackle.
I can output my mixer into the device to record guitar and vocals
...the guys jammin.
You probably can even record the radio from your tuner.

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple set up and solid software, February 1, 2010

This review is from: Behringer UFO202-BK High-Quality USB Audio Interface Vinyl Recording Bundle, Black (Electronics)
The setup of the system was easy enough however due to the age of the record player we were using we had to rely upon the PC speakers to hear the music as it was being recorded.

The Setup of the drivers for recording MP3's was a little difficult however a google search for the required .dll that appears in the error message allowed us to get it up and running.

Overall good for value, but it wouldn't hurt to have someone who's familiar with computers around to tweak and learn the software setup
