XENYX USB Series mixers are designed to handle your live gigs, and they provide the state-of-the-art tools you need to make stunning, professional-quality recordings. Along with their built-in USB/audio interfaces, XENYX USB mixers come with all the recording and editing software you'll need to turn your computer system into a complete, high-performance home recording studio.

Sonically Superior Mic Preamps

All XENYX mixers have one thing in common - great-sounding, high headroom XENYX mic preamps. These state-of-the-art mic pres represent a major step in the evolution of audio technology - and they can easily hold their own, even when compared to the most expensive stand-alone mic preamps. XENYX preamps offer a staggering 130 dB of dynamic range, with a bandwidth that extends from below 10 Hz to well above 200 kHz. Armed with these outstanding mic preamps, XENYX mixers provide such transparent, crystal-clear performance you just might think someone upgraded your mics while you weren't looking.

Sublimely Musical British EQ

The British consoles of the 1960s and '70s changed the sound of rock and roll - without them the British Invasion might not have happened. Those legendary mixing desks soon became the envy of engineers and producers all over the world. The channel EQ on our XENYX mixers is based on that very same circuitry, allowing you to imbue signals with incredible warmth and detailed musical character. Even when applied generously, these equalizers exhibit sweet forgiveness and superb audio quality.

One-Knob Compression

Ask professional sound engineers what their favorite piece of external processing gear is and the majority response will be virtually unanimous - dynamic compression. What is compression? We're glad you asked. Compression essentially limits the dynamic range of a signal, lowering the level of loud sounds and turning up softer sounds, to achieve sonic balance. But applying compression is a delicate art that many novice, and even intermediate, sound techs have great difficulty mastering. Our "one-knob" compression is available on all mono channels and is easy to operate, even for entry-level users. With this one knob, you can easily dial in the perfect amount of compression for instruments and vocals, creating powerful mixes with punch and clarity. This is indeed a rare feature for products in this class - but standard on all XENYX USB mixers.

Effective FX

All XENYX USB Series mixers (except the 1204USB) feature our new 24-bit dual engine FX processor, with 16 editable, studio-grade presets including reverb, chorus, flanger, delay, pitch shifter and multi-effects. Complete with a highly accurate input meter, these effects can be altered to your personal taste via the Parameter control. Time-based functions can be entered manually by pressing the Tap button in tempo with the music.

Recording Bliss

There was a time when the recording process called for lots and lots of expensive gear, which meant the average musician had to buy time at a recording studio - and that time was pricey indeed. But modern technology has put personal recording well within the reach of virtually anyone with access to a computer. How do you get all that music flying around your brain into your computer? That's where XENYX USB mixers come in. Thanks to the built-in, bi-directional stereo USB audio interface, you can connect any of these mixers directly to your PC or Mac computer via a single USB cable. Now any signal source you connect to the mixer can be recorded directly to your hard drive. Which brings us to software...

Free Would Be Nice!

Because you'll want to take full advantage of the XENYX USB Series mixers' recording and podcasting potential, we've thrown in a massive software package that includes Audacity (the most popular open source audio editor), Podifier, Juice, Podnova and Golden Ear (a great selection of podcasting software). You're ready to go live on your PC or Mac computer right out of the box! You also get more than 100 virtual instruments and 50 FX plug-ins, turning your computer into a complete home-based or mobile recording studio from input to output.

No matter what your audio mixing needs are, BEHRINGER USB Series mixers provide the performance and features that can take your talent to the next level, at a price that is sure to amaze you. Try one on today - we have one available in your size!

It does everything it's suppose to. I like it.
As you learn from playing with the EQ, you start to realize the benefit of having a 31 band eq.
As you play with the on-board effects, you realize how reverb/other effects can improve the listening experience, and what to look for in a dedicated effect processor.
As you crank up the gain (and get feedbacks) you learn the importance of a good mic-preamp.
I like it's simplicity. I started wearing the "sound guy" hat not too long ago. I get dizzy when looking at mixers used by the "pros" , and I thought "I didn't know they make mixers for octopus ....."
The x1222usb gave me a good starting point. This is a mixer I learn my stuff on and I'm no longer intimidated by the bigger sound boards.
Lastly, I'd like to share some facts about this mixer with you :
1. voice canceller : no it won't "cancel" the vocal part of any track. It only "suppress" it. It works better on certain songs than others, I guess it depends on how the source was mastered.
2. multi track recording : you do not get multi track output. No matter how many guitar / mic you plug in, you will always get 2 outputs : left and right.
3. 16-input : no, you won't get to mix with 16 musicians. Till this date I don't know how they come up with the number "16". You get 8 channels (4 of them can be stereo), plus the 2-Track/USB, plus the aux return (cannot be controlled by fader). For a 4-piece band, if everyone needs a mic to sing / backup vocal and they play 1 instrument, you've used up all the channels. Yes there seem like a lot of faders and buttons, but actually it's not. Unless you have a small 3~4 piece band, you are likely to run out of channels, fast.
4. Rack mount : yes they do include the brackets to mount the mixer onto a 19" rack.

Really a versatile, nice sounding product. Didn't want to review it until I used it for at least a couple of months . Some Behringer products can be iffy, but if you get a good one, it's a good one. The preamps are clean, the build is robust and the output sound is very nice. I hook up a Centrance Mic Port Pro to the XLR output, and get great results at higher bit rates. The effects are adequate for the price, the compression is also better than I expected, although I try not to overuse either, because I use this for Voice Over.

My only complaints are, the headphone output is a bit noisy and the low bit rate usb output, only 44k, 16 bit. But I don't use them, since I output with a Centrance Mic Port Pro or the TSR outputs to a more robust processing unit, a dbx 286s.

Back in the old days, I'm talking the late 70's, this mixer would have cost way over a grand, without features and would not have sounded as clean, I know because I had an old Tascam, and used Professional Harris boards in broadcasting. I had used a Mackie board, in more recent times, but found it really was not as clean as this Behringer, which honestly is equal in sound quality to some Allen and Heath boards I have heard.

Now this product is being updated, look at the Behringer web site, but I'm happy with this one and the price I paid $209.00. Can't beat that.

5 stars if the headphone amp was quieter and had at least a 24 bit 48 k output via usb.

I just got my board a week ago. It is replacing my Mackie VL series mixer. Nothing wrong with my Mackie but it is more than 10 years old now and needs retireing. Since I play 50-60 jobs a year reguarly, I don't want to wait for something to fail on a job. I initially just wanted a simple board with internal effects to replace the Mackie so I got a small Soundcraft mixer. I have used the Soundcraft mixer for about a year and it is OK but I needed more channels. I saw the Behringer X1222 with internal effects and a load of the bells and whistles on board. I own a number of Behringer products and have been pleased with all of them so based on reviews here and on other sites I bought this mixer. I have used Behringer gear like rack and pedal effects units, active studio monitors (Behringer Truths) and live powered monitors (Behringer 205D). My experience is that this stuff sounds good and just works. Despite other reviews I have yet to have a Behringer unit fail (and I admit I am not as careful as I should be taking this equipment from gig to gig).
I just did two gigs with my band this week end and the Behringer XENYX 1222 worked even better than expected. The sound is clear and open using my two pair of Mackie active speakers (12" actives on stands and 15" actives on the floor). I barely used the channel EQ's at all on the Behringer because the sound was so good with just a little top end added to each microphone (Shure 87A condenser vocal mics). I used just a little compression on each mic and found the individual channel gain to be very flexible with a nice smooth graduation (not like some boards where it seems to be almost off then jumps to completely full). The 15 effects types are pretty nice and have adjustable parameters.

I've had this for several months now and use it for live performances with guitar and vocals. I bought it because it had built-in effects and compression. All in all, it's not a complete waste. For all the features it includes, I feel like I got a good deal, and it sounds great. No real deal-breaking issues with this model. Great buy.

But I have 2 issues with this model:

1.) The effects send is supposed to be post-fader, but it must have gotten hooked up wrong at the factory because the effects can still be heard even when the fader is muted. I run a click track to headphones using the monitor send, and I have to make sure the FX send knob is all the way down or the click comes through the mains via the FX track. I'd say this is evident of poor quality control at the factory. No worries - it's just like having a second monitor send! I'm just glad this was the only thing that was overlooked.

2.) The major complaint I have is the epic failure in the design of the onboard compression. Compressors are designed to amplify the quiet signals, and minimize the loud signals. The concept is really appealing to me as a solo artist because I don't have a sound man to ride the faders while I'm performing. The flaw with this one-knob design is that it has no noise gate/expander. It amplifies ALL quiet signals, so there is a constant hiss when there should be silence. Imagine turning your amp and faders all the way up every time you stop playing and just listening to the hiss. That's what you get with this one-knob compression. Most products on the market (all the behringer compressors in fact) have built-in noise gates. It's a pretty important feature when using a compressor.

In summary, quality control must be lacking at the factory, so beware.
