4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good for the price
I own the Behringer Xenyx 1202FX, which is essentially this model but costs about 20 dollars more for the FX (it comes with 100 set effects). I have been doing home recording with Cubase and Logic, using a Presonus Firebox audio interface, with both MIDI, vocals and instruments, and didn't use a mixing board, but eventually decided to try one out given that (a) they are...

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good for the price, March 16, 2008
I own the Behringer Xenyx 1202FX, which is essentially this model but costs about 20 dollars more for the FX (it comes with 100 set effects). I have been doing home recording with Cubase and Logic, using a Presonus Firebox audio interface, with both MIDI, vocals and instruments, and didn't use a mixing board, but eventually decided to try one out given that (a) they are making them at very reasonable prices and (b) I had more inputs and outputs than the Firebox could easily handle.

This mixing board didn't look that impressive to me when I first checked it out, but having set it up and used it, it operates very well and cleanly. The fact that it comes with four mic inputs and preamps is a plus. The fact that it does not have an on/off switch is a minus. But basically it works well, the EQ is useful, and it has a large number of inputs and outputs for such a small mixer. Behringer makes a range of models with less/more inputs to suit one's needs, so this is great. Also, having a dedicated mixer makes it easier for me, as I can leave all my inputs connected and just adjust things on the mixer depending on what I want to record. Another small thing that is mixing is a button that cuts out the line altogether -- you have to turn it down to zero. And, there are no faders (except the main); instead it uses knobs for everything. Well, I would have liked some of these things, but then I would have to pay more, and what I really wanted was functionality at a good price, and that is what the Behringer Xenyx has delivered thus far.

By the way, I am running the following through the mixer: an AT3035 audiotechnica condenser mic, an Alesis QS8.1, guitar via line-in (or mic'd), two KRK RP5 studio monitors, Presonus Firebox. Everything's been working and sounding great thus far. Since I'm using Logic, the effects are basically unnecessary, but if I ever want to use the board for live use, which I may do, they could come in handy. I'd say the effects are just so-so.

1.0 out of 5 stars Noise, May 30, 2010
This review is from: Behringer XENYX 1202 12-Input Mixer (Electronics)
I used these when they were called the Eurorack UB1202 and they worked absolutely fine, but Behringer did something to mess up these newer Xenyx models. I have two of these and within the last few months both of them have started generating a horrible buzzing. I travel around with these basically doing talked head interviews and at first I thought it was just poor a/c power at some of the locations. But it started getting worse and worse, I had both with me at one location and swapped them around, changed mic's, power supplies....nothing helped the bad buzzing sound. So I ran down to the local music store and bought a Mackie 1202VLZ3 came back unplugged the Behringers and connected the Mackie.....buzzing instantly gone. And much cleaner sound. I kept hearing about how cheaply put together Behringer's were, but I just ignored it since the UB1202's seemed to work fine for me. I'm guessing they cheaped out on the capacitors on the model refresh.
Stay away from these cheap pieces of junk, you really do get what you pay for.

Every design and function for the item is good but it would be even better to have one switch to turn off power. My suggestion is to put on one switch for good.

Worked great for two months and then just died for no reason. Other than being used. Now it a paper weight now and every now and then. I'll try hooking it up and hope that it starts working again.;( I have a lot better mixer now. You get what you pay for. Sorry folks I got this mixer about 3 years ago. Just started writing now. They may have fixed the power problem now.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great!, October 24, 2011
This review is from: Behringer XENYX 1202 12-Input Mixer (Electronics)
This mixer board has done what it needs to do, I have used it in the studio and for live performance, it holds up and sounds great. The pre-amps and phantom power work well and all the inputs are sturdy. The knobs are tough and smooth to the turn. It has good FX and Sends. I have used it for what i need it for but no longer need it- check out: [...]

I had this mixer for 3 months now (as of writing). Used for some time and does its job. I really don't have anything bad to say about this mixer coz its my first one (of its kind). I have used this on some recording projects, skype and ustream. It would be a better product if it had a power switch.

I bought this to do basement studio - recording. It works great to add electric guitars , microphones for vocals and get them all sounding good together.

We use this mixer along with a digital interface and record to a computer using a digital audio workshop. It is very simple basic stuff but it helps us polish our songs. It is very versatile and works great.

My band loves it. The effects are fun too. I use an extra power strip as an on off switch for this. For the price this is a great mnixer.
