This book is a great first study for new men's groups. The series is wonderful but some of the other titles are more appropriate for groups who have met for a while.

Solid study for men that are beginning their walk w/ Christ as well as the more developed,
This review is from: Being God's Man by Walking a New Path (The Every Man Series) (Paperback)
As I was looking for some solid bible study materials for my men's small group, I found the "Every Man" series and gave the guys a list of the titles and this was what the majority of them chose as the one they wanted to go through. At first, I was apprehensive because of reading the description and figuring that it was more for men seeking Jesus for the first time, but as time went on, I couldn't believe how much it was speaking to me.
While it follows the same format as the others of the series, the questions and the passages (Romans) they go through really help you understand the struggle we have w/ sin as well as what God has given us to combat it. There's also another book in the series that picks up in Romans where this book leaves off. If you're looking for material for any type of men's group, use one of the titles from The Every Man Series. If you are interested in how to defeat sin and why sin is ample in our lives, choose this particular title.

This review is from: Being God's Man by Walking a New Path (The Every Man Series) (Paperback)
I'm writing from the perspective of a small group leader and Bible teacher for a men's group. This is a very good study of the high level themes in Romans that works well in creating discussion and touching on tough issues. This is a more in depth study than studies like Tony Dungy's UNcommon (Dungy's are very topical, light, discussion-based around scripture passages, vice Scripture-study based series)--this study is geared towards the maturing believer, encourages independent study of the Scripture prior to meeting in the group, and creates good small group discussion during the group meetings. This is not an in depth Bible study of the book of Romans, but it covers the major themes very well. Depending on the kind of small group or Bible study you are running, you may need extra material preparation to cover the things that will be read by those doing the study, but which are not addressed in the actual study guide questions. By this I mean, you will have the group read whole or multiple chapters of Romans for a single lesson, and only one of the thematic elements will be covered by the study questions. This will normally trigger additional questions by the group (rightly so) as they read the Scripture that you will be asked. I use the book in a setting of up to 20 men, periodically breaking the group up into smaller groups to address some or most of the group discussion questions. It works very well for this format. Overall a very good study. I intend to try additional studies in this series with the men. |
