5.0 out of 5 stars Being A Great Mom...there is hope for us all!
This book grabbed my heart and made me grab the tissue box in the first chapter. Sharon Jaynes beautifully describes the incredible bond between a mother and child. "While a child is being knitted together in her mother's womb, the mother's very blood is pumped from her heart to her child's. And even though the umbilical cord is severed in the delivery room, an...

2.0 out of 5 stars For New Moms Only
I had high expectations for this book after reading all the reviews. I feel that it is really for new moms. I was hoping for some creative ideas. This book is really just about common sense. Listen to your child, look at them when they talk, spend time with each child....these are very very basic things that you can get from any parenting book or magazine. While well...

This book grabbed my heart and made me grab the tissue box in the first chapter. Sharon Jaynes beautifully describes the incredible bond between a mother and child. "While a child is being knitted together in her mother's womb, the mother's very blood is pumped from her heart to her child's. And even though the umbilical cord is severed in the delivery room, an invisible cord holds them together for the rest of their lives." It is evident that Jaynes sees the role of mother as one of the most influential positions in life and encourages her readers to do the same.

She compares a mother to a lighthouse whose walls are constructed to withstand the storms of life and whose primary function is to house the Light of Life, God's son. Jaynes paints pictures with her words and inspires me to see that, as a mom, I am an "immovable constant in my child's life, a landmark along life's journey, and a guiding light that points my children to the safe harbor of home and eventually out to sea."

Being a Great Mom...has become my favorite book on motherhood. I recommend it to my friends who are mothers at all ages and stages of life. From cover to cover, this book gives practical ideas on how to become the mom my children need me to be in order to bring out God's best in them. Whenever I am struggling with the overwhelming responsibilities of motherhood, I pick up this book to remind myself that I am not alone. When my days and tasks seem monotonous I go back to page 19. Here I am reminded that I have "the most important job in all creation." I am called "to create order out of chaos; to ensure the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of my children; to bring continuity to my family in a fast-changing world; and to shape the individuals who will one day contribute to our future as a community and a nation."

This is a must have for every woman who wants to be a great mom and raise great kids!

5.0 out of 5 stars You CAN be a great mom!, September 1, 2004
This review is from: Being a Great Mom, Raising Great Kids (Paperback)
This book is so motivating and encouraging. I am thrilled that I bought this book. You will not regret this purchase. Learn foundations of being a great mom and how to open up the lines of communication with your children. See what a difference treating your children like people instead of pests can make. I have read this book so many times; it is chock full of good things. The author is never condescending or conceited. Her gentleness really flows through her writing. This is the kind of mom I wish I had and I wish I can be!

5.0 out of 5 stars Celebrating the Mother-Child Connection, September 11, 2007

Dr. David Frisbie (Rancho Santa Fe, CA) - See all my reviews

We've been working with single moms for more than two decades. They are amazing people --- regardless of the obstacles and challenges they face, these dedicated moms keep moving forward, doing their best every day.

Sharon Jaynes takes a moving and emotional look at the mother-child connection in "Being A Great Mom." This book is a celebration of motherhood; it would make an EXCELLENT Mother's Day gift for the moms in your life.

Be encouraged today: with God's help you can raise great kids!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Only Book I Ever Recall Reading Twice, February 8, 2005
This review is from: Being a Great Mom, Raising Great Kids (Paperback)
This book is the best book on mothering I've ever read. God's desire for raising your children is so clear throughout this book. A friend loaned it to me to start with. As soon as I returned it to her I knew I needed a copy of my own. I read it again a few years later and loved it just as much the second time around. I'm getting ready to read all the highlights I made now(my third time through the book). It is a book that applies to raising toddlers and teens. The book has genuinely touched my heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars Food for the soul...Great Read!!, June 24, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Being a Great Mom, Raising Great Kids (Paperback)
This book was wonderful through and through. I read a little everyday at lunch and used this as my daily devotional. There are so many wonderful reminders (especially to new Moms like myself) of the great responsibility of raising a child. My next goal is to get my husband to read it, because although it's written to Moms - it easily translates to parents in general.
