3.0 out of 5 stars Good enough for me!!
I won't bother going into what the story is about. I'll just say that I really did enjoy this book. It didn't have as much action in it as I normally like but besides that...I was happy enough. The sex is HOT, the story line is rather different, though I would've liked more info on that other world and what happened. I have a feeling though, that will be coming in...

5.0 out of 5 stars Jessica Inclan has made me a fan!, January 16, 2009
This review is from: Being With Him (Paperback)
Jessica Barksdale Inclán is a new author to me and I was pretty glad when she got in touch with me about being interviewed and having her latest Second Romance series books reviewed by me. I'm a bit late in posting this review but it's better late than never and I really enjoyed reading the first book Being with Him. This is a paranormal romance that I didn't at first really understand completely because the two main characters are from another plant placed on earth for their own survival by their parents. They have a similar species to them who are after them for evil purposes that could kill them in the end because they are the ones who destroyed their planet and parents in the first place. I did really start to get the hero, Garrick, and heroine, Milla, as the novel progressed and the reason for the special abilities became more clearer to them and the reader.

Milla is a very creative woman who has the ability to move time forward but she doesn't know what she missed between the time she was in the present and to the time she moved forward. So she missed minutes and hours and maybe days that she can never relive again because she can only move time forward. She also has never told anyone not even her beloved parents about her ability but that all changes for her when she is set up on a blind date with Garrick. Now Garrick is the other half of Milla because he has the ability to move time backwards and so he has relived the past over and over if he wasn't careful. But unlike Milla he told his parents that he kept reliving the past again and again as a child, which really freaked his parents out. Garrick had to spend many days and years of his childhood in mental hospitals with doctors trying to figure out what is wrong with him.

Until Garrick final stopped talking about his ability did he finally get on with his life as a semi-normal man but his parents were never the same with him again. Then he met Milla on a blind date that his aunt set up for him and everything changed for him as well because they both felt that deep soul mate connection between them. That is a turning point for both Milla and Garrick in this lovely and creative tale of two halfs of one whole coming together after years of separation. But that is also the turning point where things get really hard for Milla and Garrick because they finally find out what happened to their parents and their people with the special abilities. They find out about the people who want to use them for their own nefarious purposes or they die if they don't comply. By the time I finished reading this novel I had to immediately pick up the second book to find out what happens next with Milla and her brother and sister who she just now discovered she had.

4.0 out of 5 stars A keeper, January 24, 2009

This review is from: Being With Him (Paperback)
Mila and Garrick were a great couple. I like the concept of two people complementing each other. Those two did that to perfection, as did all the other couples involved. A very interesting thought, that without the other half the impressive powers you've got are rather useless. However, once you found your other half, you can do quite a bit together.

I liked the unique setting and how the abandoned ones helped themselves. Mila and Garrick together were able to figure out a good deal and once they were united with the others they accomplished a lot without relying on others. On the other hand the villains in the book are some powerful and evil, but pretty miserable, pitiable creatures. I could picture mankind somewhere in their place in the not too far future. Not a very nice prospect.

The whole story was told well, even though I would have liked a few more details about Cygiria. I suppose and hope a lot more will be explained in the oncoming books in the trilogy. I can't wait to hear more about the situation at the moment, how Mila will find her sister and what will happen with Edan and his still missing double.

The secondary characters were all pretty amazing, too. One of my favourite couples were Porter and Stephanie. It is nice to see that Jessica Inclán didn't only pair up people who understood each other 100% and were just perfect, but also a couple who really got on each others' nerves. Still they couldn't be without the other. Hopefully we will see them in future books, too, and maybe watch them as they grow together in a satisfying way.

From the title and the book cover I expected a novel that was much more on the erotic side than it actually was. Don't get me wrong, the love scenes were sensual and extremely pleasant, but people who relish sex scene upon sex scene will be disappointed. There is a definite plot there and a lot of story to be told. I can't wait to read its continuation.

The sex is HOT, the story line is rather different, though I would've liked more info on that other world and what happened. I have a feeling though, that will be coming in next books..at least I hope so. I liked the characters too. Sooooo, not a HEAP of action but good story, great love scenes, different story line: which all means - regardless of the lack of full-on action, I am definitely getting the next one coming out. You'll notice I gave Jessica 3 stars for this book, but you need to know my 'rating ways'. I very rarely give a 5 unless it has EVERYTHING I love in it...which is heaps of action, different types of 'worlds/creatures', great hero and heroine, HOT SEX and a wonderful ending. And a 4 is only slightly less than those great 5 books. I would have like to give it a 3 1/2 but we can't do the halves eh!! All in all guys, I reckon you should try it. As I said, I liked it enough that I'm gettin' the next book in the series. Ciao Babies!! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars from twolipsreviews.com, March 2, 2011
This review is from: Being With Him (Paperback)
Mila Adams has always been different. She found out when she was young that she could fast forward time. But she always knew in her heart that she had to keep this gift a secret. Her mother keeps forcing her to date in hopes of getting her married. She now loses herself in her paintings.

Like Mila, Garrick McClellan has always known he is different. He can shift time as well. He thought he was the only person with this talent, that is until he saw one of Mila's paintings. In it he sees something he only sees when he is time traveling. Now he wants to meet the painter and find out more about her. And her powers.

If it were possible, the passion these two generate would set the sheets on fire. Together they finally have control over a power that neither one had control over before they met. But if there are two people who can manipulate time, are there more who shift time too? And if so, what would that mean to them?

Being with Him by Jessica Inclan is very much a book about finding your other half, the one person that is the other part of your soul, someone who helps you make sense of your life for the very first time. Imagine being born with a power you cannot control. No one understands when you tell them about it. You would feel isolated and alone, and that is just how Mila and Garrick felt growing up. Mila always knew she couldn't talk about her power to shift time. She always knew no one would understand. Garrick made the mistake of telling people about it and he was subjected to doctors and testing untill he denied having his powers. To be so misunderstood would make finding your special someone - someone who has been through virtually the same thing you have and knows what it feels like to the outcast - that much more intense. I adored this romance and I hope to read more of Ms. Iclan's powerful work in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Being With Him, December 2, 2008
This review is from: Being With Him (Paperback)
Mila Adams knows there is someone out there for her, but she thought she would never find him until she met Garrick McClellan. Mila and Garrick were more of a match than either one of them could have imagined. They shared a common power of being able to read minds and the ability to shift time. Where Mila could shift forward in time, Garrick can shift backwards.

Finding each other led Mila and Garrick to believe they were not the only ones like them. The quest to find who they are and how they came into their abilities leads the two lovers down a dangerous path.

Being With Him is an engrossing story. The connection between Mila and Garrick was instant and very powerful. Meeting each other opened new worlds and revealed secrets for Mila and Garrick. This was such an enjoyable story because both Mila and Garrick were very interesting characters. I like that their lifestyles were different with Mila being the artistic type and Garrick a businessman. Even their abilities were opposite with Mila being able to shift forward in time and Garrick able to shift backwards. If given a choice between their abilities, I would prefer the shifting forward. Fans of Jessica Inclan and her paranormal flair will enjoy Being With Him.

5.0 out of 5 stars memorable romance, February 10, 2008
This review is from: Being With Him (Paperback)
Garrick McClellan is at an art exhibit alone in the crowd because he can never let down his guard and reveal who he is and what he can do. He can read the minds of everyone around him and travel back in time. He sees a painting by Mila Adams and it stirs a memory in him. By coincidence his aunt and her mother set them up on a blind date.

Mila also feels alone as she too can read minds and move forward in time. She has memories of her as young child in a black shape escaping from somewhere with her brother, other children and adults. When Garrick and Mila meet they recognize that they are one half of a whole. They start asking questions who and what they are but their inquiry puts them in danger from a force not of this world.

Jessica Inclan has written a memorable and evocative tale of two people who are so much more together than they are apart. Readers will like both protagonists because they are open about their feelings and their need to find others since Garrick knows he was adopted and Mila learns she was too shortly after she meets him. Some books are so memorable and unique that one can't forget them; BEING WITH HIM is one of them.
