5.0 out of 5 stars A challenging read..., May 15, 2000

This is one of those books that lays out some hard truths about relationships and offers absolutely no guaranteed steps or tactics to make them work. It is also not limited to romantic relationships, although that is one of the areas of focus. I hope that I don't mangle the author's message, but basically the author states that most relationships are based in a need that we think another person can fill for us, but that ultimately they cannot. Whether parent to child, lover to lover, or neighbor to neighbor we are addicted to the idea that we are separate and distinct, yet incomplete and that we can become more whole through being loved, needed by another. The need is what gets in the way, though. As we try to push, pull and make others do what we want we have forgotten that we are already complete -- true relation occurs without judgement, without projection and without need. A fascinating read, even though some of the messages are hard to hear because they don't fit in with our pre-conceived notions of love, psyche, etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars An outstanding book on spirituality and relationship, March 26, 1999
By A Customer
BEING ONE is one of the rare books on relationship that addresses the real problems of relating-- the identification with a constructed self and all of the dishonesty that grows out of that. I found the author's first book, DOING NOTHING astounding in its simplicity and directness and was drawn to BEING ONE as a result. I was not disappointed and highly recommend this wonderful book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Envisioning Transcendental Relationships, January 14, 2005
This review is from: Being One: Finding Our Self in Relationship (Paperback)
BEING ONE is a book for contemplative people who seek to experience transcendental relationships, and are willing and able to do the work necessary to get there by being honest, compassionate, and detached. Steven Harrison explains that there are serious problems with the three main phases of most romantic relationships (infatuation/falling in love, power struggles, dynamic boredom); all three of these phases of love are built on a foundation of an addiction to separation. This separation is imagined, not real. Only love is real... and each and every one of us can experience the joy of being in love... of being free from attacking and defending... of knowing that we are all as one... and of being one. Everyone can benefit from reading BEING ONE and imagining a world in which all the people can live their lives as one. I give this book my highest recommendation.

-- Cynthia Sue Larson, author of "Aura Advantage: How the Colors in Your Aura Can Help You Attain What You Desire and Attract Success"
