Book Description

August 1, 2001
A humor book from a Southern point of view that takes dead aim at the stupid things we all do. You will recognize yourself standing in a checkout line waiting for someone to find their money. You will wonder why women continue to send their husband's to the grocery store. As a public service the book answers the burning question, "Why won't men stop and ask for directions?"

All in all this book will make you laugh and then laugh some more.

Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

Rose Cottage Publishing is proud to announce the release of Jack Kean’s first humor book. Over forty chapters with titles like; When Pigs Fly, Bubba’s Psychic Hotline, What Would Bubba Do? and Take A Right At The Big Chicken make this the best southern humor book on the market today.

Did you love Lewis Grizzard? Do you remember Erma Bombeck? Do you like Dave Barry? If the answer to any of these questions is yes, you will truly enjoy BEING FROM THE SOUTH DOESN’T MAKE ME

Commenting on just one of the chapters Carole Craig said, “My sons and I laughed so hard we nearly choked on our hamburgers!” Mike Stucka, Editor of the Cherokee-Ledger News, wrote, “I love reading ‘em on Monday morning when I need the laugh most.” Everyone finds something to love and something to laugh about in this book.

Discussing the possibility of going on a nude cruise Jack says, “Why would you take a nude cruise? Fifty per-cent of Americans are overweight. The fastest growing segment of our population is people over seventy. If I want to see a naked old fat person, I take a shower.”

From the Inside Flap

A Native Mississippian puts down his beer can, spits out his tobacco and comments on the world as he sees it! Publishers Note: Opinions expressed in this book are that of the author and do not reflect those of the publisher, editor, printer, distributor or anyone else who has the dubious distinction of bringing forth this book. We offer our apologies to women, yankees, Bubba, psychics, pigs, the Phone Company, and sensitive people everywhere who might take offense.

On a more serious note, being from the south doesn’t make me stupid but it does give me an interesting perspective on life. My bet is you will find yourself in this book and recognize relatives, friends and neighbors. Wherever we are from, life’s little problems tend to be pretty much the same.

We have all been stuck behind someone in the grocery line who doesn’t seem to know they have to pay. Every man has likely forgotten his anniversary. Every woman has probably wondered why her man wouldn’t stop and ask for directions. We have all marveled at the seeming stupidity of our friends, relatives and neighbors. What makes me different is that I write it down and often I’m the stupid one.

More About the Author

Being from the South is an important part of my identity. My first novel, Deadly Sacrifice, was about places as much as about characters and events. Of course the humor book, Being From The South Doesn't Make Me Stupid pretty much speaks for itself.

For almost 14 years I have been writing; first a novel, then another, then a humor book and at all times for magazines and newspapers. Today I spend a great deal of time on my web site, It's A Kean World, and publishing articles on the Web.

My current interests include RV travel, English Bulldogs, article marketing, and humor articles. Normally when traveling via RV I write reviews of RV campgrounds. I write a monthly column for Modern Senior Living and contribute to RV Freewheelin'.

My current home is in Pelham, Alabama. This is close enough to Mississippi State University that we are able to attend football games on a regular basis.

5.0 out of 5 stars "An interesting perspective on life", November 28, 2001

This review is from: Being From The South Doesn't Make Me Stupid! (Paperback)
Being a librarian in Mississippi I deeply appreciated Mr. Kean humorous view of life. I personally know several men for whom this is the first book they read since high school and that wasn't yesterday.
This is THE funniest book I've read in years.
It brings understanding to the male-female relationship. We women have wondered for years, "Why don't you just stop and ask?" Now we can know. That mournful groan we get when we ask our man to stop at the grocery store and pick up one simple little item has been explained.
This is a must read for anyone who needs a good laugh or wants an in-depth look at the workings of the male brain. S.K. Conner
