Love it! Such a great message for todays children who are growing up in a world very different from my parents time when someone got a job out of school and stayed there for their entire career. Todays children will grow up and do many different jobs, wear many hats, and enjoy many interests, cultures, and places to live. Only problem is too many adults who are raising them do not understand this. I know quite a few adults who would benefit from reading this book. This book will help empower, the children who read it, to stand up to the adults who try to limit their imagination of who they can be. Brava.
I LOVE Fran Drescher and have read her other books, so I thought I would get this book for my daughter. It is a very cute book about not always fitting in and being just like everyone else and that it is okay to be a little different and be yourself. I love the old style graphics in this book...reminds me of when I was a little girl. My daughter who is 9 is also a fan of "The Nanny" and loves this book especially because it is written by Fran. It has some of Fran's sense of humor in this book as far as the names of the people. Very cute story, very cute graphics.
i love fran drescher also love the book but when it come it just all falling part from the inside of the book try to sent it back for a ofter one but i end up getting my money back which i was happy back i am going to get the book again but new this time
I get tired of everything being so politically correct and worried this book - by a celebrity author who's seen it all - and who would pitch that if you aren't for views against Christianity then you just aren't tolerant - but this book didn't sound like it was pushing any Hollywood agenda at all. In fact it was a refreshing read that resonated with my children - who dream big and have already thought of several "titles" or jobs they want to have someday. This book follows Wendy in a town where everyone gets one title (one box) they can pick but Wendy wants to be many things all at once and why must she choose. It was a great way to explain the phrase "think outside the box" to my kids. One of the best pieces I've read by a celebrity author and worth adding the hardcover copy to our family collection.
Now I know you are rolling your eyes and saying - Oh Splendid! Another celebrity thinks they can write a children's book!! But let me just be the first to say, WELL DONE, FRAN DRESCHER aka "The Nanny"! Well done. Being Wendy is so creative with an AWESOME message of following your dreams and not letting yourself be influenced or limited by what others think you should be....you are special, unique, and different. Love! I'm a school counselor and always on the hunt for books with a message like this one.
The kids were HOOKED and intrigued as to where this story was going. But the best part was getting to help the students figure out how the message applies to their own lives. Books are such magic. Get creative and use some paper bags as a fun visual. I drew a question mark on a paper bag, cut out arm holes, and had a student wear it. Each student then got a brown piece of paper with directions to list their interests and strengths.
Favorite part of book - when Wendy tries to hug her dad - but he wears a box too so it gets in the way. This sparked such great conversation about acceptance.
