Review

Believe is the 14th album by Pamela and Randy Copus after releasing their first album as the music duo 2002 in 1992. Associated most often as top artists in the new age music category, the 10 songs on Believe are a progressive advancement from earlier releases by a majority of songs containing a variety of rock influences with flowing vocals and lyrical verses you will find inspiring. Everyone will have their favorite songs on this release, and the great news is you will find many new favorites. Rarely do I hear so many exceptional songs on a single album, and as expected, their relentless attention to quality is present in every detail. This more progressive style, merged with 2002's signature sound, was actually a natural advancement for them since Pamela and Randy both began their professional careers playing and singing in bands. With 9 earlier albums making the Billboard Charts for a total of 270 weeks, their new release Believe could position 2002 in Billboard s Top 10 New Age Chart again. It's that good! In the official 2002 newsletter they advised Believe is a departure from earlier releases since 6 songs contain vocals like earlier songs Free to Fly, Moment of Love, Sarah's Rainbow, Deep Still Blue & Remember Now. I remember thinking at the time it was a nice gesture to prepare fans about the vocals in an effort to prevent disappointing anyone, but in all honesty, after sampling Believe I now find it hard to imagine anyone not liking this album. As one of the first to sample the album and write a review for Believe I am happy to report and say with confidence I anticipate that everyone will reach the same conclusion I have Believe is a hot new release destined to be the best album ever by 2002! As for the artists Randy, Pamela and Sarah, today I am pleased to say their dream is alive and well. --John P. Olsen, New Age Music World

A well thought out release that feels like it had meticulous planning but left room for inspiration and playfulness, this sets the stage for new age to take off to new places in fine fashion. Orchestral rather than minimal, grand rather than precious, this sounds like what you would have gotten if Chip Davis and Enya had a kid that stayed new age but wanted to rebel. Long time new age buffs can't help but welcome this contemporary instrumental treat to the canon. Well done throughout. --Chris Spector, Midwest Record

I have every 2002 album and love them all.

There are a few vocal tunes on this one, which is very enjoyable, and somewhat different from their other releases.

I now have all 2002 CD's to date. Each and every one of them is stunningly beautiful and haunting. Believe-A spiritual Romance being their latest release is no exception. 2002 never ceases to amaze me in that each and every single one of the cuts on this album, is superb. Believe reaches into the listeners heart and soul and wraps one in beautiful melodic, haunting musical brilliance. A great stress reliever at the end of a busy day. A way to connect with your inner-self. It's almost like you feel that you have been holding your breath and now you can actually breath again. I don't think there are enough words to describe just how much I feel for their, 2002'a beautiful music. The CD is a must for all those who apprciate, something very special when purchasing an album.I remain a devoted fan.

Question: what do the words magical, visionary, and grandiose and have in common?
Answer: they perfectly describe the new album, "Believe" by 2002.
Now celebrating their 20th year of recording together, they are one of the most enduring and highly regarded groups in the new age music genre. An expansion from this primarily instrumental ensemble is that 6 of the 10 songs on the CD feature vocals, including those of their 8 year-old daughter, Sarah. The album begins, in fact, with one of those vocal pieces - the title track. The mood is set first by piano and string sounds, with a wonderful tinkling arpeggio from a synthesizer, or perhaps a harp. After about a minute and a half, a cymbal swell ushers in the next movement with Randy singing:
"If you reach for a star
For the chance of a thousand lifetimes
If you let go of fear
In the moment your eyes are opened"

This excerpt, although brief, gives a glimpse into the inspiring lyrical direction the album takes. Mother and daughter join in on the lofty chorus entreating us to "Believe in the winds that carry your song," and "... the love that opens your heart." The second track is an instrumental that Sarah played a major role in. On "Chain of Life" an ambient synthesizer background adorned with Pamela's melodious flute create a rich sound tapestry for Randy's meaningful lyrics. An interesting evolution happens about two thirds of the way in, as the song breaks into a tribal beat and a chant of: "We are the children of the earth." With eyes closed I could almost imagine I was hearing a track from Disney's, "The Lion King."

The essence of the album's subtitle, "A Spiritual Romance," is evoked on an instrumental track called "We Meet Again.

WOW! It is unbelievable how 2002 can always deliver such beautiful music. And now they have an added dimension with Sarah who adds her angelical voice to the mix. What makes this album so unique is all the vocals that are used as an added layer to their talent as musicians and writers. "Believe - A Spiritual Romance" is a must have for anyone that loves beautiful music.

Every time I receive a mailer from 2002, I can't wait to open the package and hear what marvelous, glorious sonic adventure I'll be taken on. This is the third such time I've had the pleasure, and it's been a charm every time. Unfortunately, due to extenuating circumstances, it took a long while to get to it, but the wait was well worth it.

The Billboard-charting group, which recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, has unleashed yet another masterpiece of sonic bliss. Randy (guitars, bass, percussion) and Pamela (flutes, harp) Copus, both of whom play keyboards and synthesizers, are joined on vocals by their eight-year-old daughter Sarah, who also helped with the arrangements, including composing the melody for "A Dream Creation."

The instrumentation is thick, dense, and lush, and the female vocals are angelic, resulting in a truly heavenly sound. Randy's vocals are more grounded, and when he gets into a higher register, he sounds similar to Peter Cetera, giving the songs more of a pop-rock feel.

The production is flawless in its knife-edge quality, really bringing out the vocals and instrumentation and making the album a delight to listen to from beginning to end.

While each and every song is a treasure for the heart, mind, and soul, my favorite track is the New Age rocker "Yeshua," a grand, propulsive, and vibrant anthem. This one has all the makings of a hit New Age radio single.

The album is yet another winner from these always reliable chart-toppers. Leave it to 2002 to churn out one consistent classic after another.

I have been a huge fan of 2002 for many years and own every CD they have ever recorded. I loved Believe - A Spiritual Romance so much that I gave it to one of my best friends who just moved from California to Florida to meet the girl of his dreams. Several of the songs on this CD related to Michael as though they had been written just for him.

Now I need to order another Believe CD to replace the one I gave away. Randy and Pamela Copus are so talented ... I love sharing their music with my friends.

I have a Bose Wave CD Player on my headboard and everynight I go to sleep to their music, "The Emerald Way". Their music literally speaks to my soul and caresses me to sleep each night.
