Review

The recent renaissance of interest in heaven is inspiring. After all, the death rate here on earth is 100 percent. Cec Murphey and Twila Belk’s new book couldn’t be more timely. Heaven is a prepared place for prepared people. Cec and I wrote a book about my trip to heaven several years ago. I’ve glimpsed heaven, and you're going to like it a lot! I Believe in Heaven is an excellent book that will help you and those whom you love be prepared. Read and enjoy...you’ll love what happens next!
- Don Piper, Bestselling co-author of 90 Minutes in Heaven

In a fast-moving text, Murphey (coauthor of the bestseller 90 Minutes in Heaven) and Belk take the reader through a series of vignettes from people who have had out-of-body and near-death experiences, as well as close encounters. A quote from religion scholar Carol Zaleski sums up the book: “Life and afterlife flow together as an unending stream of fresh opportunities for personal growth.” After examining many stories from the Bible and the Church Fathers, and from history in general, the authors attempt to answer such theological questions as “Do babies and animals go to heaven?” and “Can Christians believe in reincarnation?” What begins as a spiritual look at the experiences of people who have seen Heaven and returned to tell about it turns into an examination of the nature of God and the Christian faith. The authors do a good job of describing the nature of near-death experiences and summarizing research on them. This book will appeal to readers who have read Murphey’s 90 Minutes and want to dig a little bit deeper. Agent: Knight Agency. (June 3)

In a day of economic upheaval, family collapse, and moral disintegration, people are looking for hope; and many are looking beyond this life. is there life after death? What will it be like? Who else will be there? In an effort to provide hope, Murphey and Belk have gathered more than 65 stories of near-death experiences—stories from the Bible, history, and today—to reinforce the Bible’s assurance that there is life after death. The book’s second half answers more than 35 frequently asked questions about near-death experiences, heaven and what we will do there, hell, purgatory, reincarnation, rewards, and more.

Brief profiles describing the person in each story serve to increase the stories’ credibility.

I've eaten up this new book about heaven. The format follows the earlier, companion book by Murphey and Belk, I Believe in Healing. The brief accounts in both books are so authentic with the inclusion of names, places, even doctor and hospital names in quite a few stories. But since heaven beats healing any day, I've enjoyed I Believe in Heaven even more. This book makes me fearless about death. I'm sharing it with those who face death (though we all do), knowing it will greatly encourage them. This book could be 5-stars if more details about heaven were included, but only God can make that information available. So many people have had a glimpse of heaven, and the combined impact of 150 pages of their brief stories is powerful. I'm just now getting into the 100+ pages of Part 2, Questions About Heaven. I know this will be as good as the similar section of the Healing book.

This book contains a compilation of reports on near death experiences. I have read several of the books that were summarized and the authors have done an outstanding job of reducing the details without sacrificing the essence of the reports. Reading briefer reports provides a way to quickly see the similarities in what individuals saw. I find the book inspiring and delightful reading and would recommend it to anyone curious about heaven and interested in the stories of those who strongly declare they have journeyed there and returned to tell us what they found. Knowing Cecil Murphrey's attention to detail and research lends even more credibility to the book.

I was drawn to this book because Cecil Murphey is my uncle. My parents are both gone so I can keep up with some family information through his books. I am a Christian also, and the soothing touch of God is in all of the books Cecil has written.
Sometimes the subject matter is a little touchy (the books about abuse) but I hope someday to have just a touch of his talent with an arm of Jesus around me to say or write just the write thing at the right time.

I Believe in Heaven is the third book I’ve read by Cecil Murphy. I thoroughly enjoyed 90 Minutes in Heaven and A Walk Through the Dark. This book was just as wonderful. I enjoy reading stories about people who have experienced Heaven and what really intrigued me about this book was that in addition to present day accounts, this book talked also about accounts of people from the Bible who experienced Heaven, bringing my understanding of Heaven and what I may encounter there full circle. This is one book that I will enjoy discussing with others, either in a book club or just talking a walk with my husband or family or friends. Thank you, Mr. Murphy and Ms. Belk, for writing a book that captured my attention in such a terrific way.

We all have wondered at some point in your lives if heaven is real, I know I have. Cecil Murphey and Twila Belk address this question in their new book “I Believe in Heaven”.
Wonderful stories fill the first section of the book. True accounts include near death experiences, those that went to heaven and returned, and more. The stories are beautiful. I especially enjoyed the story of Eben Alexander, a neurosurgeon, who was skeptical of the spiritual. He found his proof of heaven.
The second section is the theological section that answers questions about heaven – no speculation, just biblical answers whenever available.
Some people may still doubt after reading this book, as for me - I Believe in Heaven.

Cecil Murphy has another hit on his hands. I liked each story because they were short. I could read then put the book down and come back to it and begin with a new story. Each story gave me a glimpse of what someone else was going through and what they encountered. We will always wonder what is beyond but until we experience it ourselves we can pick up Cecil's book and take a peek to see what maybe there waiting for us also.

It was very well written with excellent simple explanations of medical terms. It didn't have the inspiration I was hoping for however, I would and did recommend it.
