5.0 out of 5 stars Best young voice I've heard!, July 3, 2008
This review is from: Believe (MP3 Download)
Only knowing 2 songs by Katie Armiger, I bought her CD "Believe" at the CMA Fest in June, and listened to it on the way home (quite a few times). When it comes to vocal quality, Katie will fool you. Upon hearing her CD, there is no way you'd believe she didn't turn 17 until after the songs were recorded. Her voice is way better than any teenaged singer I've heard.

The songs on the CD show Katie's versatility and range. The best-known song is the finale, "Make Me Believe", which was a minor hit on country radio but the video received some attention on CMT and GAC. The CD includes a couple of sassy breakup songs (the kind of material Taylor Swift seems to have made a career from) in "Trail of Lies" and the empowering "Break Yours First", but it's the rest of the CD which sets Katie apart as a well-rounded songwriter and singer. "The Road Is Calling" is a rocking goodtime feelgood duet with her producer Jonathan Lawson, who by the way is probably one of the best singers among Nashville producers, if you've heard a lot of the rest. "Something Better" is a reflection on going through life looking hard for your dreams, she sings "there's always something better on the other side"...and "then I go back to my life". Perhaps she's singing about how things she thinks she wants are just out of her reach, and that it's okay to appreciate what you have in the here and now. A real gem on the CD is the song "Wash Away". First of all, it's a slow burner which is the kind of song where vocal ability cannot be "faked". There are many big name singers who could not do this song and sound so good. But Katie nails it. And from the first line, it captures you. "Sometimes it's easy to hold on to things you can't control and I've seen people throw themselves away over something they can never change."

Katie is an excellent songwriter, writing 10 of the 11 songs on the CD. The lone exception is her second single, "Unseen", which was a song she fell in love with and rushed into the studio to record after hearing it once. I don't think it's one of the BETTER songs on the CD, but it probably IS one of the more radio-friendly nowadays.

I bought this CD on a whim after hearing only a couple of songs and I was not disappointed! Miss Armiger is a very talented young lady! She has a very strong voice with rich vocals. The CD is fun and classy at the same time. A great listen!

4.0 out of 5 stars Promising Newcomer!, May 24, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Believe (Audio CD)
Believe is Katie Armiger's second album that has her progessing on from her self titled debut.
With 10 of the 11 tracks written or co-written by Katie, the album shows more growth and are that more personal.

She starts things off with the catchy uptempo Jealousy.Plus Break Yours First(co-written with Rebecca Lynn Howard)Movin' On and The Road Is Calling, an upbeat summery sound duet with her producer Jonathan Lawson.

Her great voice really shines on the ballads such as Gone,Unseen and Wash Away. She also includes a stripped down acoustic arrangement to the heartfelt Bleed.

If you're already familar with Katie's work you're more than likely going to enjoy this sophomore. If you're new to her music, think Carrie Underwood's strong voice with Kellie Pickler's catchy tunes.

Prime Cuts: Gone, Unseen, The Road Is Calling, Make Me Believe.
