About the Artist
Bats & Mice is a band hailing from Richmond, Virginia. The group was originally formed by three members of Sleepytime Trio. They began writing songs together in a new style that pursued melody and a pop sensibility more than they ever had before; however, the music still maintained the energy and drive of their previous efforts. This line-up produced Bats & Mice's first work, a self-titled CDep released on Lovitt records in fall 2000 to critical acclaim and mass popularity with college radio and fans alike.
As one of the members departed to concentrate on other musical projects, Bats & Mice welcomed two members from another groundbreaking outfit who were also venturing into similar musical forms. Thus, the band currently has two members of Sleepytime Trio (David NeSmith and Ben Davis) and two members of Four Hundred Years (Daron Hollowell and Ash Bruce). Other bands that members have been in: Rah Bras, Men's Recovery Project, Maximillian Colby, In Return, and Milemarker.
Fans familiar with Sleepytime Trio and Four Hundred Years should expect something different than the aforementioned bands. Bats & Mice play the sweetest rock intent on enthralling the most jaded listener. Their first full length, Believe It, Mammals, will be released in spring 2002.
Bats & Mice's intricate blend of not-so-saccharine pop and straightforward rock captured audiences as they played their first shows in December 2001. They plan to continue to write new material and tour extensively in 2002.
