From the Author

The following affirmations are contained in this book in the order they appear:

"I am wonderfully creative," "I am safe," "I give with joy," "I learn and discover new things every day," "I am powerful," "I am free to be me," "I am helpful and caring," "I have a place of stillness within me," "I follow my heart," "I make friends easily," "I am thankful," "I share my love and watch it grow," "I am forgiving," "I believe in me," "My dreams are coming true," "I am kind to others, and they are kind to me," "I turn within, and I am at peace," "I am filled with greatness," "I enjoy new experiences," "I am healthy and strong," "I am whole and perfect just the way I am," "I am one with all life," "I am loving," "Laughter and joy fill my heart," "I love and care for myself," "I am blessed," "God within me is my power."

Also, at the back of the book, there are a couple of pages with space for a child to write their own affirmation and create a corresponding drawing if they would like to.

More About the Author

Connie Bowen was born in Los Angeles, California and lived in a busy West L.A. suburb by the beach until age 13. It was pure culture shock when she was uprooted from junior high school to move with her mother to the wheat fields and cattle ranching area of the Pacific Northwest known as the Tri-Cities, Washington.

She majored in art at Washington State University and then attended a private business college in Portland, Oregon to study court reporting. After managing her own court reporting firm for 23 years, Connie retired to follow her dream of pursing her art career full-time.

It was the birth of her son that inspired Connie to create her first children's book of affirmations, "I Believe In Me," published by Unity Books, which won the national Athena Award for 'book as mentor' in the category of spirituality. As of 2012, it has sold over 55,000 copies, including the Spanish edition, "Yo Creo En Mi."

Her second book, "I Turn to the Light," composed of affirmations for healing, soon followed, as did "The Sunbeam and the Wave," written by Harriet Hamilton which Connie illustrated.

Connie's love of animals led her to form a lasting bond with author Susan Chernak, author of "Animals As Teachers and Healers." It was through this connection that Connie went on to illustrate two of Susan's books, "Heart in the Wild," and "All My Relations" for Random House and New World Library.

Connie combines her three passions of metaphysics, art and her love of animals in her animal portraiture and illustrations. Her several hundred animal portraits hang in private collections throughout the United States.

After a powerful personal shift in spiritual awareness, Connie began an intense quest for all things metaphysical and has continued her study for over two decades. Her deep and abiding interest in bringing concepts of self-esteem and self-love to children continues to inspire her whimsical artistic style.

Her latest book, "I Create My World; The Power of Thought to Shape Our Lives: A Book of Affirmations" is a fanciful collection of 16 full-color illustrations paired with a corresponding affirmation.

This whimsical book highlights the importance of our thoughts to shape our lives as demonstrated by the law of attraction. Some of the affirmations included in the book are "I hold the keys that create my world," "I focus on what I love," "I am right on track," and many more.

Encouraging children to use their imagination to interpret each illustration is one of the highlights of this book. Each painting contains its own joyful characters comprising a mini-story in itself.

Empowering children with self-affirmation at a young age can be a stepping stone to a purposeful life of creativity, lasting fulfillment and joy.

I Believe in Me actually deserves a 10 star rating! The combination of simple, universal affirmations and colorful, friendly illustrations create a very positive, easy to read and spiritually uplifting book. I just bought a copy of this book for every niece and nephew in my family and had Amazon.com ship them throughout the country. Anyone looking for a beautifully simple, creative and inspiring children's book, do your child (and yourself) a favor and get this one. You'll want to read it over and over again. Thank you Connie for positively touching the lives of so many!

This book is superbly uplifting through the happy, imaginative drawings, and the absolute uplifting affirmations. The drawings are captivating to young eyes and hearts, and the affirmations are simple, happy, creative. This is a gift that will more than entertain the child you love. It will guide that growing being into self-confidence and into love for life and all in it. By the way, this book isn't too shabby for an adult's inner child!

Or indeed in yourself. The simple, yet profound, affirmations are accompanied by gorgeous, colourful images of the soul undertaking positive activities - my son's favourite is the image of the spirit skipping down a waterfall to the affirmation "I am free to be me", while my own favourite is the soul resting in a circle of protection, supported by two angels (my son used to think they were mummy & daddy) accompanied by the text "I am safe". A lovely book that has stood the test of time over several years in our family.

I bought this for our 2 yr. old daughter and it has become a family favorite! She loves repeating the affirmations and looking at the pictures. The artwork is really nice and gives us a segway to other topics. My husband and I noticed immediately how good WE felt after reading it to her. Thus it is one of our favorite books to share. Playdates have commented and enjoyed the book as well as our spiritual community. It's recommended for young children, but honestly I think everyone would get something positive from it. Even older kids that are new to affirmations, meditation and the like can't help but feel better after reading this book. It is a must have for any library!

I Believe in Me is a beautiful book that opens the heart of the reader. The joy expressed in Connie's art is universally appealing to children and adults, no matter the particular spiritual path. The simple format lends itself to countless uses, and I use mine at home with my children, in my Sunday School, and for my personal inspiration.

I Believe in Me: A Book of Affirmations

The simplicity of this book is what makes it powerful. There is one statement per page with a beautiful illustration. I especially liked my child confirming: "I enjoy new experiences" and "I am whole and perfect just the way I am." I have always been a fan of introducing children and adults to affirmations. I Believe in Me makes it easy. I have also recently added two other terrific books to my child's library. Louis Hay's (I think I am) and Lori Lite's book (Affirmation Weaver). All are wonderful additions to my library of books that are making a positive impact on me and my family.

Really? 25 wonderful pages about peace, kindness and good health...and then they spring "God within me is my power" on you on the last page? YUCK. There are few things that irritate me the way sneaky religious messages do. Especially when I unknowingly paid for them.

I'm doing my best to raise my 3-year-old son to be a kind, gentle, generous, confident and thoughtful person. I want to help him learn critical thinking skills, and help to put those to use. I want to expose him to a wide variety of concepts and beliefs, without claiming any as unequivically correct or true - allowing him to choose which to adopt. I want to teach him HOW to think - not what to believe.

When I was a child, I remember asking my mother if she believed in God. She wouldn't tell me whether she did, or not - and she said her beliefs were her own, and my own beliefs were for me to decide. In retrospect, that's one of the greatest gifts she gave me: the responsibility to study religion - and politics, and other subjects such as art - and make my own choices, decide on my own preferences. My parents exposed me to a wide variety of religions, political views, and other ideas - but they never told me which was "right".

I thought this book would fit well in our library of classic stories and modern books that hold ideas that we can study and discuss together.

Most of the book is sweet and uplifting, with lovely illustrations accompanying "I am free to be me"; "I am safe"; "I am forgiving"; "I have a place of stillness within me".

Then the final two pages: "I am blessed"...ok, maybe...followed by "God within me is my power."

Grr. Really? If this was going to be a religious text, couldn't they have said so in the book's description somewhere?
