...telling you that they are slightly weak with their live show shouldn't make a difference. This CD is great, Big Breakdown Day 1 and 2 are awesome songs, along with the title track. I also suggest listening to another band from the same area as The Sleeping, called The Escape Engine. Although The Escape Engine recently broke up, the music they produced was outstanding. I saw both bands play, and The Sleeping opened for The Escape Engine's last show. Both great bands. Worthy of 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Holy Crap good cd!, January 30, 2005
The Sleeping.... 3/5 of another amazing band, Skycamefalling. Alright, listen, when I first heard that Skycamefalling members made a new band, I was sceptical of how good they could be... I mean, how much better than Skycamefalling can you be.... Let me tell you.... The Sleeping prooved me wrong BIG TIME! With soft melodies and BRUTAL breakdowns all twined in together, The Sleeping bring post hardcore to a new level. All I ask is that you check it out. Hardcore fans, emo fans and everything in between unite over Believe What We Tell You!

5.0 out of 5 stars We Are The Sleeping. . ., January 26, 2005

OK, since I saw this band live in Jersey for the first time I have kept track of them, even owning their first Demo of what later became "Believe What We Tell You."

"Believe What We Tell You" is a blend of musical styles and is one of the best CDs I have ever heard. From start to finish this is a CD that will keep your attention. A CD that some bands like to refer to as their "Nevermind" of course refering to Nirvanas musical Masterpiece.

Songs that stand out the most are of course "Sunday Matinee (Reel To Real)" "The Big Breakdown Day 1 and Day 2" "Broadcast Silence" and "Fleet." When listening to the CD you may think some songs aren't as powerful as other BUT, believe it or not after seeing the band do the songs live you will go back and listen to the songs as if you had a whole new mind set about it. "If Your Heart Was Broken... You Would Be Dead" would seem like the most boring thing on the whole CD, but when you see the band do this song live you gain a whole new respect for the song. I have seen The Sleeping play 3 times now, I own their demo, an orginal T-Shirt that are both out of print, "Believe What We Tell You" which I got the band to sign at one of their shows, A signed poster, a hat, set of pins, stickers, and hoodie. I love this band, and they always have time to talk to their fans after a show, they know me personally.

Bottom line is, this is an awesome band that everyone should give a chance, they were one of the top listened to bands on Pure Volume.com and they were played on a near by radio station K-Rock, I love these guys and their CD, all I have to say is Awesome band, Awesome music, most own CD, and you most see them live.

Believe what we tell you.

5.0 out of 5 stars awesome!, October 1, 2004
at first you might just wave this off as just another entry in the emocore kinda genre, but when you listen to it and actually pay attention to the muscianship, you realize it's so much deeper. awesome breakdowns, emotional riffs, meaningful lyrics, and a hidden track that'll put a smile on your face, especially if you know what's really going on... this album has it all. it's hard to pin "Believe What We Tell You" down to one genre, but if your priority is just to rock out then this is definitely the album for you.

In #7 i believe it is the build up into the breakdown and the lead over it is just amazing and so creative i could not believe it when i heard it. This is a very very talented band everyone should definitley check out and support.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cross my heart....you'll like this cd., November 25, 2005
I got this cd as a christmas present last year and once i poped it into my cd player i couldn't get it out. I still have it in there and listen to it almost everyday. They arent like every other band out there who only have 2-4 good songs on the cd..their songs are all good. You could go from a loud and screaming song to a great soft song...Believ what we tell you was my favorite cd last year and this year. Now that they got signed to Victory Records..I cant wait for their debut cd.

4.0 out of 5 stars It won't put you to sleep..., November 24, 2004
With former members of underappreciated hardcore band "Skycamefalling", I wasn't sure what to expect with The Sleeping. While it would be foolish to call The Sleeping a hardcore band (or any of those something-core counterparts), there are hints of hardcore influence in some of the guitar work. The Sleeping provide the listener with an interesting blend of your common pop/rock/emo melodies with thunderous breakdowns and rapturous screams. While it may seem like the same old stuff that has been overdone a million times over now, The Sleepings approach to this style of music is fresh, yet ironically their approach is probably the only thing keeping them from becoming a household name. Although, whens the last time the radio played anything good anyways?

The good points of the CD? Well, pretty much the whole thing, some standout tracks include "Sunday Night Matinee", "Believe What We Tell You", "The Big Breakdown Part I", "One Flight One Flame" and "Fleet".

The only weak points of the CD, few they may be is The Big Breakdown Part II, while its preceeding counterpart has a catchy chorus and holds the listeners interest all the way through, Part II of this epic song, which in total clocks in over 11 minutes) starts to drag. The other weak point of the CD is "If Your Heart Was Broken...", while this song holds some of the best breakdowns and screaming on the CD and even in this style of music, the intro is a whole 3 MINUTES LONG, and its not one of those good intros, it's one of those boring, repetitive intros.

Yet even still, the good points of the CD far outweight the bad, making this CD still a must buy.

Great for fans of Funeral For A Friend, From Autumn To Ashes, and Poison The Well

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best this year, October 25, 2004
Fans of THRICE, GLASSEATER, SAVES THE DAY and even FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND will require no encouragement to purchase this emotional, emo-rock album. This technically proficient album has all the intricacies of a heart wrenching, love torn relationship that is as unpredictable as the lottery. Soothing vocals backed up by exceptionally large choruses are the focal point while the music drives forward with limitless energy, changing from the innocuous to the impetuous. It is patently obvious that this band has the intelligence, the passion and the ability to transfer their emotions into a consumable musical composition. The aggression is appropriately placed but doesn't overshadow the eagerness inside these punchy, expressively moving songs. They have found the "Zen" needed to develop music that is delicate but expansive and yet, unequivocally attractive. This honest, genuine album is just as great as anything put out by the afore-mentioned bands and their talent will soon be nipping at the heals of those who have enjoyed national adoration from such a style of music. They have taken the risk of wearing their hearts on their sleeve in this release and we are the ones who will benefit from it. This is one of a few "can't miss" albums of the year.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Sleeping Will Rock You, September 27, 2004

This CD is definitely for those who really want to rock out. I met these guys in person at their CD Release Party at the Irish American Center in Mineola, NY. Definitely worth checking out! Also these guys will be on my national radio show on October 30th, 2004 at 9:00pm EST ("The Mikey and Jimmy Show"). Highly recommended that you buy their CD. And while you're at it check out www.thesleeping.com and www.mikeyandjimmyshow.net
