This CD is still great a year later,
By A Customer
This review is from: Believe (Audio CD)
I bought this CD in December of 1998 after a friend of mine heard it in Europe. I could not stop listening to it--especially the single "Believe." It's been over a year now and "Believe" is still my favorite song. There are many people using the synthesizer on their voices now because of the huge success that Cher had, however, none are as good as what Cher gave us. To all of those who say she is too old or that all the songs are similar I say "get a grip." What does age have to do with whether the music is good? And as for the second comment about everything being the same, I say "it's a dance album stupid." Stop pretending that you're too cool to like Cher and just admit that the songs "Believe," "Strong Enough" and "All or Nothing" are songs that no one can resist dancing to or singing with. Cher will always be around because she keeps re-inventing herself and puts out quality material like "Believe."

Do you believe in love after love?,
By Samhot (Star Land) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Believe (Audio CD)
I pulled this album out after not listening to it for a couple of years. I honestly forgot that I even owned it. I have to say, it's absolutely hard NOT to like this. The music on here features catchy and addictive melodies that will possibly have you singing along, as well as dance grooves that'll get you jumping. Now, I consider myself an open minded listener, but disco music is the only music I can think of that makes my stomach turn. I say this because some of the music on here incorporates mild disco influences combined with the electronica/dance pop. I may be in a minority when I say that Cher has a voice that nearly sends me to tears. It's emotional, husky, sensual and versatile. Her singing on one of her earlier songs, "After All" (which is probably my all-time favorite romantic ballad) sends chills down my whole body. Many of the tracks on here deal with the subject of love. Onto some of the tracks. The title track is pretty much a dance/pop classic - at least in my book. The track is catchy, addictive and moving. Once again, I may be in a minority when I say that listening to Cher's vocals pressed up against the spiralling soundscapes give me goosebumps. The song is also triumphant. "All Or Nothing" pretty much has those same trippy, hypnotic electronic effects fronted by Cher's strong vocal presence. "Dov'e L'amore" is a romantic latin-tinged ballad. My friend used to play this track to death, eventually getting slightly on my nerves with this. Now, since he's moved away, and I listen to this track on my own, I love it as well. It could be for either sentimental reasons, me being a subconscious romantic, or I'm just taken by the sensual melodies & vocals -- which are sung in two different languages. "Taxi Taxi" is somewhat cerebral in scope. For one, Cher seems to be hitting ranges that I've never heard her hit before. Secondly, there's an abrupt switch from a major chord to a minor chord (from the same root note), which makes this sound like you've swapped dimensions -- this probably makes no sense. Anyway, this transition takes place from the verse to chorus respectively. I'm going to be abrupt and end this review right now, given that I think this review is terrible and it'll probably do no justice to Cher or this album. I will say that this album is EXTREMELY addictive, catchy and melodic. Contagious like strep throat would be more like it. Every track on here is great. Recommended for sure!

Dynamic Cher Makes a Believer Out of Me,
By Jack McKnight (Denver, Colorado) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Believe (Audio CD)
Cher is dynamic throughout her "Believe" album. Strong vocals and great production make this one of Cher's best efforts. The album opens with the title track, Billboard's top single in 1999. "Believe" is a soaring dance track sure to be among Cher's signature songs for years to come. The album features a strong cover of "The Power," a song originally recorded by Amy Grant. The singles, "All or Nothing" and "Strong Enough," are pop gems with the latter sounding like a true 1970s disco classic. "Dove L'Amore" is a sensual love song with a great latin beat. The album closes with a remix of the 1987 Cher rock classic, "We All Sleep Alone." It is reworked with a techno dance beat. The song shines almost as much as it did on the 80s Geffen album, "Cher." Indeed from start to finish, "Believe" is the best Cher album since 1989's "Heart of Stone." "Believe" is the perfect foundation for Cher's greatest comeback.

The one and only does it in a big way! This set will be a seller for years to come. Cher is one of a kind. Believe is a one of a kind Single. This cd is a powerhouse with multiple singles that generate the type of excitement that only a great actress/singer can generate. Cher is an icon that always suprizes her fans with her incredible charisma and voice. This cd broke all kinds of records including Cher's oldest female number 1 on the hot 100 billboard chart. She is in great voice here. This is an accomplished artist that is everything her fans adore!Great tracks include "Takin' Back My Heart", and "Love is in the Groove". "Believe" the song sold more than any other single worldwide in 1999. Why Warners didn't push the excellent "All or Nothing" eludes me!Despite the lack of company push, this cd place 3 no. 1's on the dancechart and won a grammy for best dance cd. There is no other!Long live Cher!***

Cher has done it again,
By Maria D. Vega (Chicago) - See all my reviews

The first time I heard Believe, it was on the radio. In an instant I knew that I loved the beat of the music and the lyrics too. I could not believe that this was Cher's music. As the song got more popular, I decided that I had to checkout her CD. So I went out and bought it. I loved it. This is a great CD to get a party started and going on all night. If you are a Cher fan, definitely buy it. If you are not a Cher fan, it will definitely get you dancing. I took this CD on my Spring Break vacation to Acapulco and all of my friends loved it. People that had never heard it before wanted to know who it was and where could they buy it. I give Cher 5 stars for a great CD!

Hi, Cher, it's good to have you back,

This triumphant return to the charts for Cher definitely qualifies her for the status of "legendary pop songstress". She has always been unique through working with her voice and developing an unique style, dramatic and ironic. Nowadays, she's going a slightly different path, but most fans should be well pleased."Believe" of course is the cornerstone and the starting point for this CD. The best of the following songs are at the forefront and while they are in the same mode as the title song, "The Power", "Runaway", "All Or Nothing", and "Strong Enough" each are great and individual cuts. Admittedly, the energy seems to go downward with "dove'e L'amore" and the last four tracks, but it's still Cher and that isn't bad. This album and the subsequent "Living Proof" present us with a gal who seems a bit happier and less sardonic and ironic with her material than in the earlier days. Indeed, there has been a change, but we, her fans from the early days, have experienced change too and this is a very rewarding addition to one's collection.

Cher Made A Believe-er Out of Me.........AGAIN!,
This review is from: Believe (Audio CD)
Once again, Cher has proved that she is the ultimate diva when it comes to dance music. The title track is very authentic. The song "Strong Enough" has a somewhat lonley but brave feeling about it. If you enjoy Cher at her best, then this is an album you don't want to miss!

My Favorite Album,
By A Ten Year Old (Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Believe (Audio CD)
This is my first album by Cher. I have many cds, but this is my favorite. The best songs are: Believe, The Power (also recorded on Amy Grant's 1994 album, House of Love), Runaway, Stong Enough, and Dov'e L'amore. I would recommend this album to anyone who likes Cher's music or a new collector.
