5.0 out of 5 stars Hard to put down. Easy to read high density information., March 11, 1999

This review is from: A Believer's Search for the Jesus of History (Paperback)
The Table of Contents promised an exciting menu and the book delivered. I like the short, *get-to-the-point* presentation. Easy to read and digest. A good meal. I have avoided "religious" books because they seem to bog down in Old/New Testament quotes. One gets the feeling that writers are afraid they will be thought of as "anti-Bible" (burned at the stake?) if they don't throw in 10 quotes per page. Cunningham tells it like it is. Book gave me an entirely new perspective on history of religion and Christianity.

4.0 out of 5 stars An easy reading exploration of the New Testament, March 9, 1999

This review is from: A Believer's Search for the Jesus of History (Paperback)
For those who desire to delve more deeply into the Jesus that the New Testament is all about, Phillip Cunningham's "A Believer's Search for the Jesus of History" is a real boon. Going directly to the primary researchers and authorities publications is like reading a doctoral thesis on cryptography, tedious and obscure. Because of his experience in working with college students as a Newman Chaplain Fr. Cunningham has the ability to examine the authorities and extract from them the real meat and sinew of their works and reproduce it in a form that can be easily read and understood. From this book the ordinary reader will gen an understanding of who Jesus was, where he came from and what his world was like. Much of the New Testament becomes more understandable and appreciated after you finish this easy reading book.
