5.0 out of 5 stars Hope for the World, May 14, 2005

This review is from: Believing in Better (Audio CD)
From Prince Edward Island in Canada, Lennie Gallant has a deep baritone that has resonance and timbre similar to Ian Tyson. This disc is a very good one with the title track being a catchy acoustic-based tune about trying to hang on when a romantic relationship hits a rocky patch, "Love wants to hide when you fight with fear & hard words fall on the one that's near; This house has ghosts that hold your hand, they twist & tug at your wedding band." "Man of Steel" is another hook-filled song that sets your toe tapping with Janet Munson's violin giving a cajun flavor this great pop tune. "Is It Love I Feel" is a delightful pop track that brings to mind the best of Men Without Hats in its pure infectious beat. On "Someone Like You" Gallant sounds a bit like Gordon Lightfoot with a great background chorus and the booming refrain, "There's hope for the world." The slow acoustic ballads are also well done, touching beautiful tracks with "Martyn's Brook" & "How Many Bridges" being great standouts. "Believing In Better" is great folk/pop. Seek & you shall find!

Very good Canadian folk singer, combinging a bit of Springsteen with Gordon Lightfoot. Like much of Eastern Canada, sings in both French and English, and has that true Acadian/Celtic sound with both accordian and fiddle backgrounds.
