Very disappointing, April 7, 2010
This review is from: Belize, Guatemala & Southern Mexico, 2nd: Tread Your Own Path (Footprint - Travel Guides) (Paperback)
I bought this book because it covers exactly the area we were going to. I was extremely disappointed in this book. All regional guides suffer from the problem that they cover too large an area and therefore lack detail. The Footprint guide is worse than most. It has hardly any maps other than the colour ones at the end, which are almost useless. The hotel and restaurant reviews are very poor, and for some cities and regions are entirely lacking. There is very little in the way of useful transportation information. It's organized in such a way that it's hard to use - descriptions of a city or region are in a separate section from the hotel, restaurant and transportation information. The historical and other background information is scanty. If you can find a Moon or Rough Guide for the countries you'll be visiting you'll be much better off, or join the herd and get Lonely Planet.
