Used by a computer tech for 3 years,

This review is from: Belkin 55-Piece Computer Tool Kit with Black Case (F8E062) (Personal Computers)
This is the kit the company I work for bought for the computer support technicians. It is more of a general electronics tool kit than the specialized computer tool kits Belkin offers, but I have found plenty of uses for the kit outside of the office (but don't tell my boss that). I've been using the kit for 3 years now, and the only thing that is not original is the flashlight - that is the only really cheap thing in the kit - get a Mini-Mag to replace it and you'll be fine. This kit includes an allen wrench set, mini pocket screwdriver, small diagonal cutters, long nose pliers, wire stripper, mini-screwdriver set, 6" extended phillips bit, pen knife, IC chip remover, tweezers, soldering iron with solder and wick, parts retriever and a ratcheting screwdriver with standard, phillips, torx, and square bits and both metric and standard sockets with a socket bit. I've used this kit on PC computers, laptops, wiring of all sorts, electronics repairs, home repairs, etc. All the tools (with the exception of the flashlight) have survived 3 years of use and are still going strong. The only other casualty has been the elastic in the case in some spots. Overall a very good general electronics took kit and far better than all the other "computer tool kits" that I've ever owned - some costing just as much with tools that didn't last a year of lighter use. Spend the few extra dollars and get a Belkin tool kit - the 36-piece computer tool kit, the "kitchen sink" 65-piece too kit, or this excellent, more general purpose 55-piece tool kit. I am confident that you'll be as pleased with it as I have been over the years.

Good Universal Kit,

This review is from: Belkin 55-Piece Computer Tool Kit with Black Case (F8E062) (Personal Computers)
I'm a computer technician and I've had this toolkit for probably 5 or 6 years, while some of the tools are more electronics specific, the best part is the case itself. The case has held up remarkably over the years and is very universal, the torque screwdriver's torque component broke making it useless, but I easily replaced it with a Craftsman Torque Screwdriver which is much more durable, and the bits are of course compatible. The material covering the outside of the case just recently started chipping off, so here I am looking to buy another one (I just wish it didn't have to come with the tools again) I've also replaced the cheap flashlight with a quality maglite. The needle nose pliers also got bent to the point of being useless as well, but this is after years of use.
Back in our tech bench area we have probably 4 or 5 toolkits laying around, all of them are the $10-15 types with cheap tools and a cheap case, I cannot imagine using any of those for real onsite repairs. This toolkit could be better, but it's the perfect size and unlike the molded plastic kits, the tools are easy to upgrade or replace.

The tools included make a decent basic computer toolkit. The tools are unlikely to break with heavy use, but they will certainly rust eventually. I've been using these kits in various forms for years and all the pliers and bit drivers have ended up rusty.
The soldering iron is cheap. The flashlight is crap. I would gladly pay another $25 for the kit if it contained a powerful LED flashlight with a smaller footprint and a basic power driver instead of the manual ratchet driver.

Great tool kit for working on laptop,

I bought this tool kit after searching the web for about a week looking for one that had all of the items I needed to take apart my mother's laptop and replace the power supply plug. It worked great, the price was the best I found and it had everything included that I needed to repair the laptop. I am very satisfied.

Awesome overall general use for a variety of different projects from mechanical to electrical (less mechanical, more electrical). The Belkin's lifetime warranty is great to have. Everything does what it's suppose to do. You'll most likely replace the flashlight since it's plastic and doesn't look like it'll handle a drop. Of course, don't be reckless with these fine tools. None of the tools are listed so I'll copy & paste someone else's list.

As a novice in the computer building/modification field, I found the tool kit to be exactly what I was looking for. Combine that with the discounted price and free shipping it was a great deal too!!

This toolkit devotes most of its space to stuff you'll rarely if ever use. Most of the tools are unnecessarily awkward to take out and put back in. The picture is also not an accurate representation of what's included.

This item is good but I think the kit should have an antistatic strap. This would incease safety for the user and the equipment.

The variety of tools is nice but needs a Static Wrist Strap to be included. Plan on purchasing one separate if buying this kit. The soldering iron went out on second use, very low quality iron. The pen knife blade continually falls out unable to tighten to keep blade in. Flash light is made of the cheap plastic, dropped and broke. I would return this product for a refund but threw light in trash before iron went out. Buyer Beware!

No torx, small head screws are tough to use,

I bough this to upgrade my laptop's hard drive, and there was no torx drivers in the kit. A computer kit with this many pieces should really have torx. The small headed screws that are locked into a metal pen-like device would not lock in correctly. This could be user error, but I had trouble maneuvering them and getting the smallest screw heads to lock into the holder. I haven't used much else within this kit yet.
