Well-Spaced Keys Ensure Comfortable Typing

The Belkin Keyboard Folio makes web-surfing, word-processing, chatting, and other typing-heavy iPad activities much easier. The keyboard features the traditional QWERTY layout, which computer users will instantly recognize.

Each evenly-spaced TruType key has been designed with a scissor-spring mechanism, which ensures tactile feedback with every keystroke. The keys are made of textured plastic to ensure a pleasant feel with every key touch, and the key travel has been engineered to create a laptop-like typing experience. The keyboard also has iPad-specific shortcut keys that allow you to easily copy and paste text, perform searches, adjust volume, lock the iPad screen, and more.

Adjustable Angles for Both Typing and Viewing Modes

The Keyboard Folio features a unique tri-fold design that allows for a variety of viewing angles on your iPad. The folio can hold your iPad upright for a clear view, or can tilt it at multiple angles for a familiar, laptop-like orientation. Fold out the keyboard for typing on your iPad, then tuck it away when you just want to view videos or pictures. When folded flat, the keyboard rests safely away from your iPad screen to ensure that it is well-protected when you are on the go.

Stylish, Durable Folio Protects iPad

With its attractive stitched border and sleek grey color, the folio is as stylish as it is functional. The folio has a soft exterior and a smooth inner lining, making it pleasing to the touch. Its stiff, durable construction helps protect your iPad from scratches, scuffs, and other types of wear. It even features a camera lens cutout that lets you snap photos while your iPad is in the case. Lightweight and form-fitting, the folio is designed to slip easily into a bag without adding unnecessary bulk.

Bluetooth Connection for Cable-Free Operation

Thanks to its Bluetooth functionality, the keyboard eliminates the need for additional cables and wires. To connect the keyboard to your iPad, simply switch the keyboard on, and it will connect to your iPad via Bluetooth. In addition, the keyboard's rechargeable battery is able to hold a charge for up to 60 hours of active use or up to 2,000 hours of standby. The battery can easily be recharged using the included USB cable.

The Belkin Keyboard Folio for iPad 2 is backed by a one-year limited warranty.

Customer Reviews

It appears to be a very durable, but attractive case.
MikeC
There's this little flap at the bottom of the case that wraps around the bottom of the iPad thereby holding it all in place.
A. Nielsen
The battery life is very good, and the keyboard is very easy to use.

If you are really interested in attaching a keyboard to your iPad, this product will get the job done. There are some definite compromises though, check out my video review to see more.

I purchased this case/keyboard combo as an early Christmas gift for myself and I have no regrets. It was between this case and the Logitech Zagg aluminum case. Ultimately I chose this case because in looking at the Zagg case it appears that there is quite a lip surrounding the keyboard. I could see that getting in the way of typing. Also, the reviews for the Zagg case indicated that the aluminum dented easily.

The fold-away keyboard is a nice size and the key spacing is perfect. Couple that with the convenience of folding the keyboard away when you don't need it and this is the perfect case/keyboard combo.

The keyboard is one of the best I've tried for my iPad. Of them all, the Belkin feels most like a true keyboard, rather than one of those mushy rubber things. Unfortunately, the folio lets the whole product down.

* It is too difficult to remove the iPad from the case (but that is true of MANY iPad cases).

* It does not allow one to type with the iPad in portrait, rather than landscape, mode, which would be the most natural way of using an iPad to work on most documents.

* It is difficult to get used to opening it for typing purposes and then folding it back up again.

* When it is folded up, it is uncomfortable to hold.

* Most significantly, to get a reasonable viewing angle on a desk or table, the iPad needs to be tilted fauirly far back, which requires there to be a good deal of available space on the desk or table behind the iPad, which runs counter to the otherwise space-saving qualities of the iPad.

In sum, perhaps the most potentially useful feedback I can offer is that I am glad I got my folio free through the Vine program; if I had paid $100 for it, I would have returned it.

The Belkin Folio iPad2 case offers a wireless Bluetooth keyboard and the option to use your iPad either with the keyboard or without. The keyboard is nice and clicky, but as the case is somewhat awkwardly shaped, the whole package is a little clunky.

PROS:
There are lots of case combos that offer a keyboard, but few that still allow you to use your iPad as an actual tablet. Most cases are constructed with the keyboard folding onto the iPad screen, just like a laptop, which means the keys are touching the screen. For this circumstance, in order to use the iPad as a tablet, you have to let the keyboard part hang off the side or try to fold it underneath. The Belkin people seem to have remembered that although iPad users might want the typing ease of a tactile keyboard (since how many of us can really type efficiently with the on-screen keyboard...c'mon, you know you can't really do it for long emails or documents), we still bought the iPad because we wanted a sleek touch screen device that can rest comfortably on our laps while we surf the web from the couch or check emails during meetings at the office.

Although the design of the case is definitely an advantage, what matters most to me is the way the keyboard feels and responds, i.e., the clicky-ness factor. Because at the end of the day, if you don't like typing on it, then what's the point? And this thing is great. Very clicky, very easy to use, and the keys are a good size and nicely spaced out. And the biggest thing I missed about using the on-screen iPad keyboard was the arrow keys. Never fear - this keyboard brings all 4 dimensions of arrow-scrolling back into your life...it's glorious.

The last pro is the battery. It lasts a long time. I've only had to charge it twice in a month.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
The BELKIN BLUETOOTH KEYBOARD FOLIO FOR iPAD 2 is a leather iPad 2 case with a bluetooth keyboard mounted inside. While the keyboard works just fine with the iPad 1, the case is a bit too narrow for the first-gen unit. I really have nothing negative to say about this product. The case seems durable and well-made. It has holes in all the right places for the iPad 2, including a camera peek-a-boo. The keyboard is responsive, but as with all keyboards, the feel of the keys is a matter of personal taste. I like the feel and no matter how you slice it, it's a dramatic improvement over tapping the iPad's screen.

Pairing the keyboard to the iPad was simple-as-can-be. In fact, I went crazy and paired it will the bluetooth computers in the house, including iPods and Windows PCs. No problems or issues with any of them.

Power for the keyboard comes from a rechargeable battery and the unit comes with a USB cable. It comes charged out-of-the-box and I haven't had to charge it yet.

The only negative I can think of is that I sure would have liked a touchpad. Without it, you have to reach for the screen whenever you need to click on buttons or do anything non-text related.

Otherwise, I love The BELKIN BLUETOOTH KEYBOARD FOLIO FOR iPAD 2!

Pros
- the bluetooth keyboard itself works very well and is very easy to pair and use
- flat on a table, the ipad can easily be adjusted for various viewing angles

Cons
- the case is uncomfortably awkward to fold and unfold
- the case is very bulky
- the keyboard is glued to the case. would have been nice if it was removable (e..g with velcro) so the keyboard could be used without the case
- to use the keyboard the ipad must be in landscape position; there is no mechanism to allow typing in portrait orientation
- It isn't easy to slip the iPad in/out of the case. If you're not using the keyboard the shape and weight of the case make it very uncomfortable to hold the iPad for normal use.
- case does not fasten when closed
