5.0 out of 5 stars Belkin - CNS08-T-06 Conserve Surge, December 11, 2009
This review is from: Belkin CNS08-T-06 Conserve Surge Protector with Timer (Ivory) (Electronics)
This device performs as advertised! the timer is right on the money and the switch will flash to warn you that it is about to power off the devices on the kill side.

Working in IT, I was working my typical 10 hr+ day when I saw the timer light flashing to warn me of the impending shut off. Works perfectly on the timer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Product!! 1 Exception...., March 16, 2010

This product is wonderful other than the timer is only an auto off after 11 hours timer. I would have liked it much better if I could at the very least adjust that duration... It would be even better to be able to set on and off times.... I was disappointed and think it should be clearly written in its description that it is for auto off only and after a fixed time of 11 hours....

4.0 out of 5 stars An Energy Saving Power Strip with Remote Timer switch, June 14, 2010
By

This review is from: Belkin CNS08-T-06 Conserve Surge Protector with Timer (Ivory) (Electronics)
This 8-outlet power strip by Belkin has very sharp styling: two-tone muted ivory-creme color around the 6 switched power outlets, & heather gray color surround the 2 always-On power outlets. Rounded edging gives a contemporary styling to this strip. Should fit nicely with the styling of Mac desktops.

The 2 power outlets at the end of the strip supply ample space for most power-brick plugs that need the extra area. There is approximately 1.5 inches empty area separating the 2 plugs on the end from the 4 closer spaced plugs at the center of the strip. The two always-On plugs can also be used for power-brick plugs as these are slightly elevated above the others. The two green LEDs indicate these are always powered On.

The timer switch plugs into the power strip via a 1/8" plug, next to where the heavy duty power cord enters the strip. A thin 6 foot wire leads to the switch that controls the 6 switched outlets Off & On -- they are timed to power On for 11 hours. The timer switch does not control the 2 always-On outlets, and the 11 hour limit is not configurable -- at 10 hours, 45 minutes a small LED light at the center of the switch starts to blink -- this indicates the switched outlets will power Off automatically at 11 hours unless the switch is pressed when it is blinking. This will keep the power On and reset the timer for another 11 hours. Pressing the lit switch at any other time will turn the switched outlets Off.

The problem with this is that the blinking LED light is not too noticeable, and there is no audible alert. The switch should be placed in a very prominent place where you can see that the switched outlets are automatically turning off within 15 minutes.

If a computer is utilizing the power strip, place this switch on the mousepad, next to the mousepad, or even on the keyboard because the blinking LED is very easy to overlook. CPU and storage devices should use the always-On power outlets. I missed the blinking LED on a couple of occasions and it shut down some very important data devices, causing me to lose a little bit of work. This might not be the right power strip for you if you tend to leave your computer devices On for more than 11 hours to perform work. Also, if you unplug the switch from the strip, the powered outlets will turn Off. There is no way to turn the switched outlets On when the switch is not plugged into the strip.

Nevertheless, this power strip will save power when chargers, DVD players, monitors, game consoles, etc. are plugged in. In most cases, these devices needlessly draw small amounts of power even when turned "Off". The small amounts of power that these devices waste will add up over the course of the year; this is power that can be saved.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not what I need, March 14, 2010

It's a good for idea for someone who needs it. The item works fine. It is not , however, what I thought it was. There is no adjustment for the timing. That is not made clear on the website. I may find a use for it someday but for now........not. So, the item is ok but limited in it's use for me. Be aware before you buy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Works for me, April 19, 2010

I purchased this unit as a computer companion. I wanted to be able to turn on my printers only when I actually wanted to use them and not have them running all the time. The unit accomplishes this task, sort of. The remote switch has a cord about a six foot long, which is adequate for my use. Since I have a black & white laser printer, a color laser printer and a label printer I found having them power up at the same time was too much for the unit as it would just shut down. Usually all would power up on the second try. Powering up one laser printer and the label printer works just fine. So if you need to power up six power hungry devices all at once this may not be the unit for you, however if your needs are less it seems to work fine.

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect, March 21, 2010

Only two constant on options, works good but I wish maybe I could customize which outlets I want to turn off on a click or the 11 hour cycle.

For home use, I could care less about the 11 hour cycle and would rather have the ability to choose how many outlets I want to shut off by clicking the power switch. But overall it does what I need it too. Works good and saves me a few nickels.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Does Exactly What It Says Easy Bought it for 11 Hour Timer, February 11, 2012

This review is from: Belkin CNS08-T-06 Conserve Surge Protector with Timer (Ivory) (Electronics)
I've been looking for something I can manually set power to recharge electric bike batteries (as if I leave something recharged too long by forgetting its charging, it damages the battery life). While I haven't been able to find anything that I can just manually set for whatever hours I want when I want to do so, this is the closest at 11 hours. I just plug in my electric battery bike pack and it shuts off after 11 hours which is perfect. All I do is push down on the attached button and viola 11 hours of power and then it turns off. Just as advertised.

PS All the other timed surge and powered strips sold are programmable only which means they are not manual and will only power on and off at the days you have them pre-programmed for which was not what I wanted. IE, if I use my electric bike (which has to be recharged after I use it), I want to be able to have it go on and off at whatever time & day I plug it in. This does that, the others do not.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Office Use!!!, January 31, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Belkin CNS08-T-06 Conserve Surge Protector with Timer (Ivory) (Electronics)
Fantastic item for use at an office. My small business purchased one of these for each computer station. The PC is plugged into the "always on" section and the monitor and printers and miscellaneous at each desk is plugged into the remote controlled section. This allows the PC to still do its automatic backups and updating without having the vampire energy usage of the printers and monitors each evening and over weekends. No more accidentally leaving the monitor on all weekend!

One thing that seems to be the most common complaint for people who haven't liked this item is that they didn't realize that the 11 hour limit wasn't adjustable. This hasn't been an issue because, while you cannot change the duration, you can press the button again to turn everything off before the 11 hours is up. Also, the flashing light warns you when your 11 hours is getting close.

Easy on, easy off. Can plug in your phone & answering machine into the top two "unswitched" plugs. The 6 on the white section are switchable with a single, easy push button. Works great in the living room too.
