I used a very basic Cyberacoustics (CA) case for the original iPad. Light, simple, didn't add very much to the space claim. When I purchased the 3rd generation, I was disappointed to find that the new version of CA case was of lower quality with a poor accommodation for the power switch. What was still unique was the plastic mounting frame and... more importantly... the limited increase in LxW dimensions. I had tried the Apple Smart Cover, but found in a briefcase it doesn't always stay attached. I was happy to see Belkin using the same mounting strategy as the CA cases, in a far more functional form and located within a high quality leather case. I also appreciated the no-magnets version, as I have found no use but annoyance for the auto-on feature. The benefits of the minimalist plastic ipad mounting frame include better cooling for the iPad, good corner/edge impact protection, very simple removal and insertion, a "no case" feel to the iPad bezel, and tolerance of back and front protectors or no-slip strips without any problems with interference. Basically, the Belkin is a brilliant minimalist case for the iPad, providing more protection than the Smart Cover at at only a small increase in depth. I tried quite a few cases for the original iPad, and always came back to a cyberacoustics case. This Belkin series is far better than the old CA cases, and I couldn't be more pleased.

I had a little trouble setting my iPad into the case, because the four rubber "clasps" keep things pretty snug. But once in, you can be sure your iPad's not gonna come tumbling out anytime soon. Downside: the screen protector seems to be a layer (even though it's super thin) the case makers hadn't considered, and the corner clasps don't allow for much room for that layer. It tends to get "pushed up and away" and I have to use my fingernails to tuck it back it under the clasps.

I like the 'open' feel of the case. Most cases, to me, feel like they're trying to bury the iPad under layers of leather or plastic, so I like that this case tries to keep things light. The sides of the iPad are exposed, but since the four corners are covered and padded, that should be enough to keep the sides from getting scrached or nicked or dentied if/when you drop your iPad.

I'm not sure why, but the case makes my iPad feel heavier?

Also, I usually read or surf the Internet lying down in bed, and this thing just doesn't or can't display the iPad at a comfortable angle for. If I try to push it back so that it's standing nearly perpendicular to my stomach or chest, the case and iPad tips over. Oh, well.

The case also has a magnetic clasp on it that doesn't seem to know what to do when the case is open. It kind of just... dangles there.

Also, it doesn't come with magnets that make it a 'smart cover.' You'll have to remember to manually put your iPad to sleep yourself.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
When we got your first IPad, I opted to buy the cheap Apple screen cover that attached to the device with a magnet. I foolishly thought that this might protect the IPad. After one of my children knocked the IPad off the kitchen counter and shattered the screen, it was obvious better protection was needed. I give a huge thumbs up to the SquareTrade 3-Year Tablet Accidental Protection Warranty ($500-600) for quickly and painlessly fixing our IPad!

I was given the opportunity to test the Belkin Cinema Leather Folio Case for the IPad 2. It looked like a huge improvement over the Apple protector, so I decided to give it a try. There were quite a few reviews on the initial appearance, so I decided to wait 6 months or so to see how the product held up to the use and abuse of 3 children under the age of 10.

My initial impression of the case was quite positive. The case definitely has a basic, but attractive leather exterior. The interior is a soft gray lining that kind of resembles suede (It is not suede, but I am not sure what kind of material it is. I am far from an expert on cloth and similar materials).

The IPad is held in place by 4 plastic holders in the corners. The holders have kept the IPad securely in place, despite being used and tossed around by 3 younger children. A couple times over the last 6 or 7 months, one corner has popped out, but the device was still help in by the other three until the issue was discovered by an adult and remedied.

I have read reviews where some people have had issues with the closure tab staying closed or not knowing what to do with it when open.

The Belkin Cinema Leather Folio case replicates a fairly common case design available for most tablets, but with a twist: Belkin uses its standard X-grip which attaches to all four corners of the iPad and protects them. This plastic frame is bonded to the back of the case, which folds up and allows you to use the screen cover as a base. Several ridges on the screen cover allow you to adjust the viewing angle. You can also fold back the screen cover when using the iPad as a book.

This case is of excellent quality; the finish is impeccable and looks great, and provides excellent protection to the screen, back, and all sides of your Precious.

The biggest issue I have with this model is that it ends up turning the thinnest tablet on the market into a pretty thick book. Then again, this is not a problem that is unique to this specific case, but rather to the type of case; although the Belkin X-grip probably doesn't help.

Bottom line: looks great, excellent protection. Highly recommended as long as the added thickness doesn't bother you.
