It has also proven useful for overnight device charging. The 3 hour function seems to be sufficient for most devices.
Please keep in mind that this timer only have three fixed delay times 1/2, 3 & 6 hours. That being said, it may not work for all your everyday applications. However, I think it's a very good choice when you don't require a complex programmable timer.
Careful on heating elements though, while my iron had no problems, my high resistance space-heater (no ground) melted some of the outer plastic.
