With my personality, the small things matter the most. Having my wife's ipod sync cable laying across the desk really bothered me. So I searched the web trying to find a docking station that would provide a simple, yet elegant solution to my minor problem.

My search led me to the Belkin In-Desk Dock. A flush mount docking port that fits within a 3 inch hole that usually is on most computer desk. This Belkin device comes with the dock port, grommet, and 5 foot usb 1.1/2.0 male a to male b cable (standard usb printer cable). The size of the orafice fits most ipods, though you must use the docking port adaptor that comes with your ipod as Belkin does not include the adaptor.

Installation is simple, place the grommet within a three inch hole, then place the dock station within the grommet. From there, plug your usb cable from the underside of the dock station to either your computer or powered usb hub.

For my application I drilled a three inch hole (using a hole saw) through my keyboard tray and placed my docking station to the left of my keyboard. All my wires run under the tray to a hidden usb hub. I used the docking adaptor that came with my wife's 1st gen Ipod nano. I sprayed-painted the adaptor black and placed it within the docking station's orafice.

The results, a clean, effective solution and the docking station works perfectly. See my pics in the image viewer.

Pros: Simple, elegant design that will clean your desk up and give you a great sense of organisation.

Cons: For the price, this kit does not come with the necessary adaptors for various Ipod models.

Works great with Ipod, Ipod Touch, and Iphone. If you dont have a 3" hole on your desk you will need a drill and a 3" hole bit.

Just installed this great Belkin flush mount dock for ipods in my desk. Fit perfectly in my desk after drilling the 3" hole as spec'ed. Finger/cord holes are great for running extra cable thru the desk and really reduce clutter. One caution for iphone users - this dock will have your iphone spit out a "This accessory is not made to work with iphone" warning. It still works, charges and syncs no problem, but the warning is annoying. I hope Belkin updates this great product to be iphone compatible - I'll buy the update!

I've had this product for six months and it worked great with my iPhone 3GS. Yeah it popped up that message that said this accessory isn't designed for iPhone or whatever, but it worked just fine for charging and syncing. I just upgraded to iPhone 4 and unfortunately they do not play nice with each other. It works sometimes for charging and syncing, sometimes just syncing, and sometimes it just doesn't work at all. I hope Belkin comes out with a newer version of this that officially supports iPhone and especially iPhone 4.

Great solution for docking an iPod. Matches the style of the other Belkin in desk hubs exactly. Technically its not compatible with an iPhone and the message will pop up on its screen warning you, but it still works. If they made an updated version, i'd buy that too!

You need a 3" hole saw in order to install this item in your desk. I don't have a 3" hole saw.
