Excellent wirless networking solution and portable,
This review is from: Belkin F5D9050 Wireless G Plus MIMO USB Network Adapter (Personal Computers)
I am running a "pre-N" network which simply means it's faster than G speed and with greater range. I bought this adapter for my kids PC about 35 feet away and through an interior wall. The download speeds are nearly as fast as my wired connection - I'm amazed.
Although I'm an advanced user (20 years with a home PC - built a few over the years) getting this device up and running was simply plug and play. I was online in 5 minutes. The connection is rock solid - no drops or loss of speed after a few weeks use. BTW, I opted for USB so the unit can be used on a new PC down the road (since it won't be obsolete for a long while given the speed).

Does the job with XP Drivers,

I have an older XP-Pro PC running on a Pentium 4 / 3.0 Mhz. Upon running the Belkin software and plugging the device in all looked promising; I entered my WEP key and it was accepted; then I received repeated messages that the network server would not communicate with my computer. As suggested in several reviews, I went into the Belkin utility and flagged the option to run on Windows' Utility...and now it works great at 54.0 mbps in a bedroom upstairs from my router. Uninstalling the Belkin software and running the Windows Add New Hardware Wizard made it work faster/better with fewer icons/distractions. So if your PC is XP-based bypass the Belkin software and go straight for the Windows new hardware installation and you should have a good experience with this product.

Just in case anyone is looking, this worked fine with Ubuntu. This adapter completely outshines the Rosewill one I had that shot craps. It is a bit big though. About two fingers width, so even on a desktop you might want to use the cradle/mount thing that it comes with. All in all, I would buy another one.
These are great for children desktops. If you don't want them to have internet/network access, just remove the thing. Big points in my book.

Installs and works fine - not durable,
This review is from: Belkin F5D9050 Wireless G Plus MIMO USB Network Adapter (Personal Computers)
I own one of these because it came with our router. I installed it on our second computer using the corded dock, and within a couple of weeks, the major physical design flaw of the dock became apparent.
The attractive angled design has no support beyond the usb port and plug, and when anything bumps into it or the adapter gets pulled out and plugged back in (common if there are errors prompting disconnect and reconnect of the usb device!), the port in the dock AND the plug on the adapter module both develop connection issues. When the adapter is used by itself, it is large and awkward and more easily bumped or damaged. It's the least durable usb item I've ever owned. If I could give it a zero for durability, I would. If it were possible to plug it in once and never, ever move/touch/bump it, it would be fine. It installs easily, works great, until the connectivity issues inherent in the wear and tear made unavoidable by the poor physical design of the adapter and dock housings begins.

Mac OS 10.3 - this one works!,

After searching far and wide for wireless card for my old G4 Titanium Powerbook, I happened on this one from Belkin. It's BIG and cumbersome, but works flawlessly with OS 10.3.9.
I had previously purchased a Sonnet Aria Extreme card for this book, but it was defective and was returned. I understand that a LOT of these Sonnet cards have trouble. The Belkin wireless G comes with a CD, and drivers for both OS 10.3 and 10.4 are on the disk, contrary to other posts. This may be a new development from Belkin, as I purchased the adapter in late March 2008. I get great range and speed with this adapter, and would recommend it to anyone with an older Mac laptop, running at least OS 10.3, who needs a wireless solution.

Some reviewers complained of problems with the included software and said that they had connection problems, weak signals, etc. Despite this I decided to take a chance and order since I've been pleased with other Belkin products. I've got to admit that I began the installation with a lot of fear. If anyone would have a bad experience, it surely would be me. But now I have to say that I don't understand the negative reviews. The installation went very smoothly. I thought about not using the software but did anyway. You can install it and then turn it off, but why? I tried turning it off to use the Windows network utility. That's when the problems began. I quickly went back to Belkin's software. It operates just as it should every single time. I turn on the computer, the information box opens, the machine is connected, and away we go. Not a single time has there been some connection issue. I haven't bothered to run a speed test, but I'm not aware of any difference between that computer and my brand new Dell with the built in wireless connection. I don't have a need for another one of these, but if I did, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another. 100% happy.

I was reluctant to buy this product after i looked at the mixed review, but i bought it anyways since i had a good deal. This product worked like magic on my computer, installed the software (2 Next button), plugged the adapter in, thats it, gave me all the available networks, clicked on mine, entered the key, and working like a charm, no speed drop, no computer crash. nothing.. very satisfied

Gets the job done but is cumbersome,
This review is from: Belkin F5D9050 Wireless G Plus MIMO USB Network Adapter (Personal Computers)
Although the network adapter works great, it is quite large.
The wireless capability broke on my laptop and I got this as a workaround since the computer manufacterur wanted to wipe my laptop and take two weeks to do so as a "potential" fix. The actual wireless adapter is 3 1/2 inches long (not including the USB connector) and 1 3/4 inches wide. With that size, it sticks out of my laptop quite far and the metal USB connector has become bent so that the adapter doesn't stay in very well. I now have to use the adapter with mini docking station. I guess the good thing is that I can sit the adapter with the docking station further away from me (if the proximity to the radio waves causes cancer, it's a plus to keep it away - otherwise, it's just not convenient.) It does its job well as far as connectivity, but if you're purchasing this for a laptop that you take around with you quite a bit, you might want to look for a smaller adapter.

I've used this on all my Ubuntu Linux machines, and it just works "out of box", of course, no installation as is typical with Linux machines, either it does or doesn't.. And this one works beautifully.. Even with WPA..
