4.0 out of 5 stars Belkin F5U220 USB 5 Port 2.0 PCI Card, May 2, 2002

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Belkin F5U220 USB 5 Port 2.0 PCI Card (Personal Computers)
I've got a Dell Demension 4100 Computer running Windows ME. The computer came with 2 USB ports, which wasn't enough after I purchased my new Digital Camera. I decided to try adding a card to my computer, instead of just buying a hub. I have very little computer upgrade experience. To my surprise, I found adding this card a "piece of cake". I just followed the instructions, turned on my computer, and after a few butterflies in my stomach, I got the thing to work. I only gave it 4 stars, because, once installed, Windows ME DID NOT RESTART. I had to start in Safe Mode. After restarting, the driver installed and the new card works perfectly. It it didn't scare the Hell out me (Windows not loading), I'd have given it 5 stars.

I STILL HAVE THIS PCI CARD (March 2011). It's installed in a new computer I built about 2 years ago. It connected without a hitch with Windows XP and now Windows 7 Professional. I guess I can give it 5 stars now, since I really got my moneys worth out of it!!!!

I also have a Dell Dimension 4100 that came with Windows ME. I upgraded to XP Home Edition. The installation was a cinch, and the internal port was quite useful as it turned out. I bought a Startech frontside usb port hub (goes into a 3.5 inch bay) and the cable needs a type a usb port to connect to. Normally the cable for the Startech would have to be connected to a port on the back of the cpu. With an internal port, I hav everything wired neatly inside the cpu.

1.0 out of 5 stars Simply does not work, August 1, 2003
This review is from: Belkin F5U220 USB 5 Port 2.0 PCI Card (Personal Computers)
I purchased this card, installed it on a Jetway VT266 motherboard with Windows XP installed. This ruined my installation of Windows XP, and I had to reformat my drive. I thought it was simply because I had a cheap motherboard, so I tried it in my Dell - same thing. I have always purchased Beklin products in the past, but will not go near anything Beklin now. If you buy this card, it's a lucky dip as to whether or not it will work on your system. Please - buyer beware.
