For a while I've been wrestling with the best way to use my laptop on the couch or in a chair without a table in front of me (which isn't that comfortable anyway!). I had seen these before and finally picked one up today. They are lightly cushioned, which is perfect. The firmness makes it easy to hold but the cushy feeling keeps it from being tiring.

Not only does it angle the laptop well and provide a cable guide through the center, alternately used as a storage slot, but it prevents you from cooking yourself with the bottom of a hot laptop.

edit: Time for a long term owner revision. I'd give this three stars. It's still decent but it needs a hard plate on the top side so that laptops sit naturally rather than sinking in to the soft material. This alone would help prevent many laptops from overheating. As they settle in to the material this thing is made of it eventually cuts off the space beneath many laptops for airflow which many rely on for cooling. I should have seen this problem when I first looked at the product, but it's an obvious omission for many laptop designs.

The stand makes using your laptop on your lap easier, but unfortunately it still makes my MacBook overheat because the material used doesn't allow the heat to escape from the bottom of the computer.

I have a 17" laptop and this works well to support the computer and keep it cool, but it is about twice as thick as I think it should be. In other words it holds the computer rather high on my lap, but others may find that a plus, not a minus. The space inside holds the mouse and AC adapter nicely as well. Overall it is a worthwhile product, but not essential.
